IKEA in Atlanta is under fire after its management team devised a 'racially insensitive' menu for Juneteenth which featured fried chicken and watermelon.
Bosses purportedly sent out the menu to employees in an email last Friday, saying they wanted to serve the foods to customers as a way to 'honor' the federal holiday.
However, the management team - which allegedly featured no black employees - failed to realize that many of the food items have been derogatorily associated with black Americans for more than a century.
According to NPR, both fried chicken and watermelon were common foods fed to slaves in the South, and have been 'a mainstay in racist depictions of black Americans' ever since they featured in the 1915 film Birth of A Nation.

Is IKEA insensitive for offering Swedish Meatballs?
Should I get myself checked out?
with it being atlanta the only thing missing is hot lead...
Liver is a filter.....I’ve never ate it.
When I was in the Navy in the 80s.....the cooks (half were black and most others were filipino) chose the menu for February (black history month.)
We had a steady diet of fried food, delicious greens, and other meals that today would be called stereotypes or insensitive.
Nobody complained and thr black cooks laughed and said that’s what they liked.
Looks like the menu the NAACP and local churches use for fund raisers around here (except we spell potato without the “e”.
I’ll take it. It’s funny, they’ve been known to riot when Popeyes runs out of fried chicken sandwiches, but they’re being “victimized” if someone puts it on a menu especially for them. Effen’ idiotic psychos.
This is headline news in 2021.
God help America.
I more suspect, though, that He’ll give us some very hard times, to get our hearts and minds where they belong.

It’s Christmas time in Hollis, Queens
Mom’s cookin’ chicken—and collard greens
Lots of so-called white people (whatever that means) eat fried chicken, watermelon and those things especially down here in the South. Of course we have to be sensitive you know.
So what should they do — avoid putting on the menu things which black people (and white people) like? The whole thing is stupid. Now watch IKEA go to great lengths to change their menus. ha ha ha
I eat all of those except yams. Blacks don’t?
And Newports
What about Four Fried Chickens and a Coke?
Fried chicken from Publix is my all time favorite fast food.
“First of all, go to any black gathering in the greater south and yes you will find fried chicken and watermelon.”
Correction: any gathering of Americans.
Everybody loves fried chicken and watermelons.
I never understood this stereotype and would never know it but for the liberals telling everyone that these are racial stereotypes.
Back in the 60s and early 70s, there was a chicken joint near me in Queens, NY called Chicken Delight. It had a soggy coating — no crunch whatsoever. But the pieces were juicy and it tasted incredible. To this day, I’ve not had fast food-type fried chicken that tasted as good.
Didn’t you have to have a really high income to eat meat even occasionally in Colonial America through maybe 1920? I don’t think meat was served very often to anybody.
So, Africans ate fried chicken and ate watermelon? It’s all Hollyweird movies that promoted that stereotype.
