Most stressful job during pandemic? Teaching

Veteran school teacher Stephanie Woolley-Larrera has gained years of experience since her inaugural year at the front of a classroom 26 years ago, yet the past school year marked many firsts for her.

For one, Woolley-Larrera, who teaches at Coral Reef Senior High School in Miami, had never taught from a stationary position in the corner of her classroom, where she was tethered to her computer in order to address students seated both in front of her and tuned into class remotely.

"I learned more this year since I have since my first year teaching. It was transformative," she said of teaching high school during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In January 2021, 78% of teachers said they experienced frequent job-related stress, compared to 40% of employed adults, according to a survey of public school teachers from the Rand Corp. funded by the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers

The pressures of teaching during the pandemic weighed so heavily on educators that one in four teachers said they were likely to leave their jobs by the end of the 2020-21 school year, according to the same study.

Hybrid teaching challenges - including balancing remote instruction with in-person learning - led to the most stress among teachers.

"The kids that did not want to participate - I couldn't do anything about that," said Woolley-Larrera.

Who told you your doctor wasn’t an essential worker?

You have no idea what grocery workers went through last year. A great many I’ve seen have gotten out this year while jobs are plentiful.

Cry me a river. The vast majority of teachers are leftist illiterates. It would be “transformative” is shuttering government indoctrination centers and filling unemployment lines with teachers.

Lazy ass teachers refused to return to the classroom until ordered by our governor. I’ll remember that.

When I was in the sign business, I climbed an 85’ ladder truck to service a Waffle House sign that was in, St Cloud, FL, an area with no sign height ordinances so the ladder was extended the full 85’. The truck was a mid 70s Chevy and the ladder/crane unit was built in the 50s. Each letter was a 4’x4’ cabinet with hinged faces but someone had removed some of the wrong screws so when I pull the bottom screws, instead of hinging, it dropped and I had to catch it. Got it fixed and on my final trip down, I got woozy from the 98 degree humid heat. Not a good place to pass out. I made it down though.

Another time, I was inside a cabinet that had neon letters on both sides. We had turned the service switch off but someone had bypassed it and the timer kicked on while I was inside. I had a few inches on either side of me with 50 brass studs that suddenly had 15,000 volts to them. Good thing I had someone to go inside the restaurant and find the timer and shut it down.

Tell me about your stressful job, teach.

Teacher the most stressful job? That’s a bunch of B.S. The communist Chicago Public School teachers basically had a paid one year vacation courtesy of the Democrats.

My doctor, of course! Don’t preach to me about some seventeen year old kid, half assedly bagging groceries, being vital to keeping the store open. You must be some wonked out UFCW union rep. You sure sound like one.

My niece was an ICU nurse in Charlotte.
Every night when she came home from work her husband would lock the dog in another room so the dog would not jump on her.
She would then proceed to strip naked just inside the doorway to the condo/apartment. Everything she wore that day went directly into the washing machine on HOT. She went directly into the shower.

She is no longer an ICU nurse. They are now expecting their first child.

it really wore those commie teachers down lazing on beaches, sipping pina coladas, all on the taxpayer dime while lobbying to not return to indoctrinate because of covid.

What a crock. Was this story commissioned by the NEA? I can think of SCADS of jobs that would have been more stressful than teaching. What...they had to learn how to use Zoom? The horror!

I change into my street clothes before I live the hospital I work in. Put everything in my back pack, sneaks and all. Wash the stuff on hot with bleach. Every couple of months I buy a new pair of sneakers. Have to.

Cleaning up everything that comes out of people and then washing them wears them out after a while.

Wonder if I can get a tax deduction on the next pair?

Two of my brothers went to a little Catholic college in Charlotte. Belmont Abbey.

I’ve been there. Very nice.

Teachers are always whining about their job. They get summers and winter breaks off. They treat overtime like they are the only profession that has to work it.

my guess is anybody but the teachers....

try being called "essential" and having to be around covid sickly people for 12 hrs and then go home to your family....

teachers are overly sampled for opinion....around here, the teachers haul in over $100,000 a year for their 185 work days and for the last year they've been mostly home in their pj's...
