President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden announced on Saturday that one of their German Shepherds, Champ, had died.
Champ had been with the family for 13 years and passed away peacefully at home, a statement from the White House said.
"Even as Champ’s strength waned in his last months, when we came into a room, he would immediately pull himself up, his tail always wagging, and nuzzle us for an ear scratch or a belly rub," the statement read.
"Wherever we were, he wanted to be, and everything was instantly better when he was next to us."
Champ, who was purchased from a Pennsylvania breeder, has been with the Bidens since 2008. The pooch was welcomed into the family on Christmas Day and named Champ by Biden's granddaughters.

RIP, sweet doggy.
“13 years...I think that is a long time for dogs...
Maybe some of you own German Shepherds?”
10-12 years is the average for a German shepherd although my female passed away in 2019 at 16.5 years. A senior German shepherd is considered to be seven years or older.
This will be one of only two times I will EVER have any sympathy for those people.
They may be evil to the core but he was their dog and that means something.
Champ didn’t kill himself.
Creepy Joe finally caught his poor dog in the bathroom....
I feel awful for the dog.
Even though the owners might be evil, I’m sure Champ has been a good and loving family member.
May he be ramping happily among other dogs over the Rainbow Bridge.
*romping
We all do, and the bitey one, who I assume is still alive.
My cousin had two German Shepards, died around the same age as Champ, 13 yrs seems to be the typical life span, some can live longer of course, like any breed..its always sad when a dog passes on, Ive lost two fur babies, miss them both everyday its hard
{{{hugs for that}}}
♥️
I put my Bloodhound down a year ago for arthritis that nothing could help. He was 12 years old and 130 pounds so he made it a long time for a Bloodhound. They are considered old at six. He took a pain med but eventually he got where he couldn’t sit without yelping. I’m not going to let one keep going in that kind of pain.
I have two Mountain Curs that are 14 and still spry. Their joints are still good. They are each around 60 pounds so they have done well. One has never been to the Vet sick. All she has ever had has been her annual shots and exams. The other one had a tooth pulled. LOL
Joe Biden gave his dog Champ’s death more notice than Biden did on Ashli Babbit’s murder, and Ashli had served in the Air Force, unlike Joe’s dog:
This fact shows you just how fascist the Biden administration and Pelosi really are. A tragic murder of a woman veteran at the capitol has less notice than the presidential dog.
We are truly living under tyranny.

So sorry for your terrible loss and I offer up prayers that your two Curs live long, happy, healthy lives.
/I suspect I’m more dog than human
Dad did and would have been overjoyed with 13 years.......Sadly, it wasn't to be with his last one, Zarek.....
Did it commit suicide?
My parents had 2 Shepherds that both lived to at least 13, and probably closer to 15 years, iirc.
Both of my Shepherds died in their 10th years.
Our little guy (Terrier) should make it to 15-18 years, hopefully.
👍
