A 16-year-old girl was attacked by a bear in the Great Smoky Mountains early Friday, prompting the National Park Service to close a back country section to visitors.
The attack happened at 12:30 a.m., as the teen was sleeping in a hammock in the the Crosby section of the park, officials said. Her family was “sleeping in close proximity” at the time, according to a news release.
Investigators have not released the identity of the teen, but said she is from Middle Tennessee.
“The family was able to drive the bear off from the area immediately after the attack and quickly notified the park’s emergency communications center,” the National Park Service said.

Every year, thousands of vacationers see black bears in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, mostly on the Tennessee side.
“Fatal black bear attacks on humans are so rare — more so than any other species of bear — that they occur on average of once per year across North America. In addition, about one black bear out of 1 million will attack a human in a predatory manner, Rogers said.”

As more and more “tourists” make contact with the animals, and the people feed and do not respect the wildness of the animal, the more comfortable the bears get being around people. So as that is their habitat and they lack fear of contact, they will be more approach from them.
From the description of the wounds, the confrontation sounds more like a feeding effort rather than an attack based upon the confrontation itself. So my problem is why kill a bear that is just doing something natural, in an area set aside for the animals, that everyone knows they are there to allow them to be on their own, and then determine if the animal actually did the attack after it is killed? There are ways to protect yourself from bears rather than swinging someone in a hammock. And what would they have said if the bear they killed did not have evidence of the attack on it? Oh, well, my bad!
God gave humans the “power” over animals by giving us more intelligence. About when are we going to use it?

I saw that movie:
And they proved that the attacking bear was a male, and that the family’s food was stored out of the bear’s reach.
The Great Smoky Mountains are part of an International Biosphere Reserve and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Does the same apply to menstruating men?

I mean menstruating age not instructing (spell check foolery.)
The responsible thing to do is for menstruating women to stay home and not kill a bear.
Cosby is famous for the moonshining that took place in the early 20th century. To East Tennesseans, Cosby has been known as “The Moonshine Captial of the World.” The farmers of the area grew corn and to supplement their income they began to turn some of that corn into moonshine
Bring back Midnight Basketball for bears !
Whenever I go up there I am always armed. A black bear will attack, kill, and eat a human if they can. Especially in the fall.
Yeah because they are 100% pu$$y.
Wilson County where I live was notorious, too. The entrance of the sheriff's complex is plastered with photos of stills being busted. And I'm sure some weird stuff on my far back property used to be one. Yay capitalist spirit(s)!
