I just got a text message that said 'please text me' .It was from the same area code as my phone with the first 3 numbers the same as mine as well, a tactic often used by scammers. I sent nothing back, but only because I don't know the automatic feedback for a non existent number.
I have been received suggestive texts from unknown numbers lately. I delete them.
I learned that the hard way by doing that with email. It may say STOP to you but to them it's a big glaring neon light that says 'valid sucker address!'.
Here's the exact wording you should use when texting your friends:
Dear Friend,
Blessings be upon you!
I is hoping all is well with you there in < name of country > .
I need you to try to test me - just as a text!
Warmest greetings,
Your Friend
That should do the trick!
Regards,
This is just number spoofing.
Ignore and block. I once got spoofed by my EXACT number.... it’s a technical scam
I get texts from the local DemonRATs sometimes wanting money or for me to call the state legislature to push some wacko bill. These are the only one I respond to. It don’t send “STOP”. I send “MAGA”. And then into the spam file it goes.
Got a weird text from an acquaintance late yesterday afternoon asking how I was doing. Told him I still had a pulse. He then asked for a picture as he said all of his data had been lost from his old phone. Thought that was weird as I had talked to him a few weeks ago so I sent him a picture of the Crypt Keeper. Didn’t hear back from him.
Today the "FBI" would probably "help" them improve their scam.
People get scams like this all the time.
Only an idiot would even consider texting back.
Don’t even answer phone calls if you don’t know the number.
If it’s real, they’ll leave a message.
Joe Biden: “Listen, scammer. You leave me and my family alone. Here is a list of all our numbers and bank accounts that are off limits to you.”
We have voIP phone/internet. All friends and family know to call us on our mobiles and not the house phone. All house phone calls go to voicemail and in the past 4 years there have not been more than a couple of dozen legitimate calls even though the phone rings several times a day.
I used to have fun with the Indian Microsoft scammers and learned some Hindu insults but after a while that boring .
Lol
That’s good.
Please send me 16 of each.
I just ran a little test. I Googled ‘please text me. Scam?’ . Not one listing from Free Republic , even after digging thru a few pages of results. I went to ‘ GoDuckGo.com and this thread was the top result.
Even though land lines have been practically taxed to death I've been thinking of getting a landline. This is because there is device you can buy which requires a caller to enter a code to get the phone to ring. The rest go straight to voicemail.
I use one of Tom Mabe’s techniques: “911 what is your emergency?” It they hesitate or attempt to respond, repeat your words with a bit more force. If they still don’t hang up, remind them: “Be advised that crank-calling 911 is a serious crime. Now, what is your emergency? We already have your location.”
Are you texting?
I get similar stuff...ignore it!
SACM
I get them periodically, and just block them. It’s not worth the effort to try to find anything out about them. The government doesn’t care, and won’t do anything about it.
Not then but am now.
😎😂
Haven’t figgered that emoji thing on the desktop. I am not that tech smart.
The kids got me started with text talk. We have a blast.💥
