WASHINGTON, Thursday, June 13.
The residents proper of Washing on have manifested considerable alarm to-day, having apparently an impression that WIGFALL was to make good his promise to dine in Washington on the 15th, and that Gen. SCOTT would be so auducious as to resist the entrance of the erratic Senator.
JOHN A. DIX, of New-York, will be commissioned as a Major General to-morrow.
WM. WILLIAMS, of Hollidaysburgh, Pa., has been appointed a Major in the Army.
Secretary SEWARD to-day reviewed the Cayuga Regiment, at their camp on Georgetown Heights.
THE PRESIDENT ON THE VIRGINIA SIDE.
The President, and Secretaries CAMERON and CHASE, to-day reviewed several regiments on the Virginia side.
Hon E. JOY MORRIS has accepted the mission to Constantinople, and will to-morrow forward to Gov. CURLIN the resignation of his seat in Congress.
CHARLES WASHBURN, Commissioner to Paraguay, and CHARLES RIOITI, Commissioner to Venezuela, are in Washington, receiving their instructions. They will leave in the first steamer.
THE MARYLAND ELECTION.
The election in Maryland passed off quietly, at least so far as has as yet been ascertained. The presence of our troops has had the effect, I presume, to secure a fair expression of public opinion. The only district I have heard from is Annapolis. At the previous election, the Union majority was 22; to day it is 170, the vote standing, for CALVERT, Union, 290; for HARRIS, rebel, 126.
POSITION OF THE GERMAN STATES.
Advices have been received from all the German States of a determination to do all in their power to aid the Government in crushing the Southern rebellion. The assurances from Austria, Prussia, Switzerland and Belgium, are very strong.
