'Something Really Special': 12,000 NHL Fans Take Over for Anthem Singer to Deliver Stunning Rendition
Hockey fans gave a stirring rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Wednesday, taking over for the national anthem singer before a playoff game between the New York Islanders and the Boston Bruins. Singer-songwriter Nicole Raviv regularly performs the national anthem before Islanders games at Nassau Coliseum, according to the NHL.
Her microphone was having technical issues before Saturday’s Game 4 in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The 12,000 fans in attendance quickly jumped in and helped her sing as the microphone cut in and out. #isles fans are heroes. This is more anthem footage from the most memorable performance. Gona miss this barn… pic.twitter.com/XoN1mUvO1D — Nicole Raviv (@thenicoleraviv) June 7, 2021
The microphone was working properly before Game 6 on Wednesday night, but the Islanders faithful still joined in.
Raviv pointed the microphone at the crowd as they all sang together. “I didn’t think @thenicoleraviv could sing the anthem any better than she normally does at #isles games,” sportscaster Shannon Hogan tweeted.
“But that right there was something really special.”
Raviv replied, “I’m not crying you’re crying.”

I’m just happy LeBum lost!!!!!
I don’t want blacks in Atlanta to be happy.
It’d be neat if Steve Nash got a ring as a coach I guess.
I feel bad for the best Jazz teams losing to the Bulls.
Keep the cup in the US!!!! No Habs!!
I’m sick of FL having a good hockey team but otoh I wish the best for the fans there.
Is there such a thing as “White Sox fever”?
Are the Cubs a surprise?
I watched Clippers v Utah last night on ESPN3
Found it to be completely unwatchable. A couple passes and someone throws up a THREE
Repeat 200 times
Very cool.
Wish this would take off and happen at MLB (and, other pro) games, as well.
A ground swelling of patriotic singing!
Bucks! I only watched the highlights.
I have decided I’m glad, boo on “superteams”.
Did you see Giannis airball a free-throw tonight?
I was stuck in a sports bar so I watched an NBA game for the first time in ages.
The quality of play has really deteriorated, Michael Jordan would have run rings around these guys.
I got rid of cable years ago
Only have Xfinity streaming free service.
Gives me ESPN3
Yeah, I thought quality was down
Not sure if defense innovation is better
Is there anything special in this? Montreal? Price is their weapon?
Are the Phoenix Suns an expected champion?
Special for an American team. Happens in Canada all the time.
I remember it happening in Pittsburgh during the playoffs some years ago and now the crowd sings along with the singer, Jeff Jimmerson.
Montreal plays suffocating defense and Price is a first ballot Hall of Famer. But Tampa should be more than a match.
The hosers must be stopped at all costs!!!!!!!!
As for the NBA, the ends of games are unwatchable. Something called the elam ending could be the solution. Or else just give technicals for all that damn intentional fouling.
