Dow Chemical is boasting – about how woke it is

The once-great chemical company’s latest recruiting email focuses on diversity, sustainability, and equity ...

The wokeness infecting major American corporations needs to be exposed wherever possible. It’s important that Americans know how leftist college grads occupying management positions in these organizations are steering them away from their purposes and turning them into idealized college campuses, complete with a focus on diversity, systemic racism, sexism, yada, yada, yada. The latest example comes from Dow Chemical Company.

Dow is one of America’s classic corporations. Herbert Henry Dow, a chemist, founded it in 1897 and it quickly became known for its diverse products and its competitive instincts against the big British and German chemical companies. It’s had some misses over the years (Napalm, Agent Orange, leaky silicone breast implants, tax evasion charges, price-fixing, etc.), but it’s still responsible for incredibly important products in what remains of American industry. Dow also introduced consumers to Styrofoam, Saran wrap, Ziploc, and Scrubbing Bubbles, although it sold all of those products to S.C. Johnson & Son in 1997.

That serious company is nowhere evident in the most recent newsletter Dow sent to those who are on its recruitment mailing list. The first paragraph of the email makes sense for serious science types contemplating a lateral move from their current place of employment to Dow:

We’re interested in how science can enhance people’s lives. That can mean discovering a new material, or working with our customers to apply fresh thinking to the world around us. It can also mean using science to build an exciting career–with the opportunity to explore, exchange ideas, and make a meaningful difference on global challenges. We thank you for your continued interest, and we want to learn more about your passion, expertise, and experience. Can you see yourself on the team?

I see this as an opportunity for entrepreneurs to hire great conservatives and knock the squishes right out of their market space. It will be hard to raise the capital from the woke banks, but investors culd take up the challenge.

I worked for PepsiCo for thirty years. PepsiCo was woke long before woke was cool. The company started wobbling 25 years ago. Something happened 30 years ago that bears out the reasoning of this article. Up until 30 years ago the company promoted lower level management from within the ranks of non management, generally non college degreed employees. Of course, these individuals formed the management pool for further promotions. That changed overnight and those entry level managers who had worked their way up from labor were fired enmasse and replaced with 22 year old freshly minted college graduates. The vast majority of all management at the company now were recruited right out college with zero real world experience. You could chart the leftward trend and see it quicken and expand as the entire management team became infected over the the next 15 years. When the left gained control of education, it was all over for the country.

These large companies either get more woke or face action from the federal government (investigations, persucutions, new regulations, etc.).

No matter how big the company, they do not have the resources to fight the federal government indefinitely.

This wokeness by Dow does not surprise me. The company began a transformation 40 years ago to the dark side.

First step was the management got greedy and was giving each other multi-million bonuses during a period when employee wages were frozen but the company was still turning record growth.

Next step was laying off hundreds of R&D and engineering as they figured they could buy technology and outsource engineering. Several thousand persons left the company or were laid off.

It's been decades since I gave a damn about anything Dow. I used to have lots of professional respect for the organization. Typical MBA think crossed with woke.

Aren’t all these companies wasting huge amounts of money to pose? I thought business was about the bottom line. Unless you consider it as advertising.

I’ve been laughing lately when I read someone’s comments saying they’re going to start drinking Pepsi after the Coke controversy. I think Pepsi was the first company I started boycotting due to their politics. JC Penny was number 2.

This is not a new thing. Dow has been woke and green since the Hole In The Ozone Scare of the late 80s, early 90s. They went right along with it, even though they held the patents on Freon, the villain of the Scare.

Oh, did I mention that those patents were about to run out and Dow was going to lose money? Or that they had a new patented product ready to go that was less “ozone depleting?”

Could that have been the reason they didn’t fight the made up Ozone Hole Scare?

I won’t be surprised at any wokey stuff they do.

Yep, I know that Dow and DuPont merged. I thought the mash up company went by DuPont-Dow? I kind of just tuned them out and left it that way.

I never really understood that merger. Completely different cultures and business models. DuPont heavy core in specialties and Dow heavy core in commodity chemicals. The synergy aspect was not obvious to me.

Cheers…

Virtually ALL chemical companies today are going wokey-wokey. They’re all so frightened about their very existence, they’ll literally do or say ANYTHING to stay in good standing with whatever the government trend of the day is.

I never understood it either.

My point was that the connection, the incest, is Dupont is Delaware and thus Biden

Biden is owned by Dupont and is thus the vassal of Dow as well
