I use it too. They use it in Germany to control blood sugars. They use it at 1.8 grams or 1800 mgs QD.
I used a more modest amount 1.2 grams. I was pre-diabetic My A1C was around high 6’s almost 7. Dropped to mid 5’s around 5.4 to be more exact. Took better part of a year to get results but my weight dropped 10-12 lbs. It does make your urine have an odor similar to asparagus. It also is a bit of a thiamine stripper so if you imbibe you might want to supplement your B1. Its on amazon. Research it on WebMd
When it comes to Velveeta v hard cheeses, SOMETIMES it is the best choice.
Grilled Cheeze, BBQ hamburgers, and on the occasional BLT+Eggs and Onions. BELTO
I must have missed something, what did you use?
Alpha Lipoic Acid?
Yes correct.
The key to weight loss is eating less. That’s simple, but not easy. A calorie is not a calorie, but total intake does matter. Fats and protein are more effective at controlling hunger than carbs. How low is a “lower” carb diet? The Atkins approach to starting quite low, then gradually increasing amounts is a pretty good idea. The number will be different for different people.
Intermittent fasting is a great way to control intake and add the benefits of fasting to the equation. No, you will not die if you skip breakfast (or supper). You probably won’t even notice it after a short while. I stop all caloric intake by 9:00 every night; I start at 1:00 on Monday, 2:00 on Tuesday, etc .. with noon as an anticipated starting time on the weekend. I try to keep portions under control during the week, but Saturday is generally a cheat day.
Exercise has a role in a weight loss program, but it is not burning calories. No activity burns enough calories to be worth doing for that purpose. Extended exercise sessions that burn lots of calories are often major hunger triggers. Exercise should be for the purpose of preserving muscle mass and metabolism. Your ancestors were not thinner because they were working in a field; they were thinner because you can’t cram fast food down your neck while you are working in a field (and the food they were raising wasn’t garbage, too).
Dr. Jason Fung on diet, Dr. Doug McGuff on exercise. If you were willing to put on a mask and/or take an experimental vaccine because of Covid worry, can’t you make the adjustments needed to lose your excess weight? Is that really the bridge too far?
Agree.
The follow up had him removed off of all medications for pre-diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol. I learned nothing of this until after his follow up, agape at the story and humbled with the vindication of years of work.
IMHO, there is no excuse for T2 diabetes, but I explain the 'why' in the new (now first) volume (it ain't pretty).
Some clues in this, however, but the devil's in the details:
"However, researchers also found that the same proportion of participants (28%) were able to remain off their medications for at least two years."
That should be troubling to all. Read it again. There's a reason (multiple, in fact) for the pathetic results. Still, anything which reverses T2 is a step in the right direction (one foot back out of the grave). There are multiple pathways, though not all lead to full health recovery; this study is not merely prima facie. It is exemplar.
(Full disclosure: My books do not proffer weight loss. They proffer healing. Weight loss is an effect. Healing is ALSO an effect. But 'diet' is not panacea. The secret lies within. I'm trying to motivate to get published, sequel to getting back to writing; please do not ask details)
I agree! I enjoy the cork sniffer boutique stuff as much as the next guy, but Velveeta is tough to beat in a classic omelet. It was a tasty breakfast! Think the whole shootin’ match topped out at 600 to 800 calories w/ the homebrew. I keep one brick held in reserve as part of my Strategic Cheese Reserve.
I have gluten intolerance, rheumatic arthritis and Valley Fever (in remission) as primary issues. I decided dropping my weight to unload my joints would be a good strategy. I choose a hybrid approach: 1) Zone perfect 30-30-40 calories from protein-fat-carb, 2) Intermittent fast (5:2) with 600 calories on Monday/Thursday and 1250 calories on the other days. I use MyFitnessPal to record weight daily and track food intake meal by meal. Stop putting food in when you hit your daily target. I dropped from 193 lbs in Jan 2016 to a low of 144 lbs in Jan 2018. I'm 153 this morning. At 5 ft 11 inches, my BMI is 21.5, body fat 16.5%. Two months short of my 65th birthday. Blood work has been perfect.
I'm with you entirely- and I'm a nutritionist.
Oops. I meant to joke “If it tastes good, you CAN’T eat it.”
Years ago, after my Primary Care Physician diagnosed me with Type II diabetes, my cardiologist, Dr. Swain, joked that “If it tasted good, you can’t eat it”. So my wife and I joke about the “Dr. Swain Diet”.
Years ago they did a study on children.
They put them in a room with every imaginable type of food from sweets to meat.
Then they watched what they chose.
And they chose a balanced diet.
What is QD?
QD = Daily or once per day depending on how well you tolerate it. Personally I take it in the AM but that’s just me. Alpha Lipoic Acid is usually well tolerated.
