...I have been celebrating since February, when I got my first shot of the Moderna vaccine at a San Fernando Valley park. My sister Anita in Cleveland has spent the months since then worrying about me... Ever since COVID-19 vaccines became a reality, she’s been poring over articles and social media posts about hypothetical harms that most scientists debunk. That left her determined to shun the vaccine — and afraid for me to get my next shot.
...
...my fear of needing a ventilator to breathe was stronger than whatever apprehension I felt about the vaccines.
For my sister, that ratio was reversed. She worried that the new COVID vaccines might turn out, in the long run, to be as dangerous as the disease.
Our email exchange launched a back-and-forth that lasted for months. It was fractious and frustrating at times, because we are tethered to separate echo chambers that amplify our individual views.
...
“This is a new disease and these are new vaccines, with emergency use authorizations,” she said. “We have a lot of information on how safe and effective it is. But what hasn’t been studied is what it can do five or 10 years from now.
“So it’s totally reasonable for some people to say, ‘This is brand new and it’s hard for me to really feel comfortable with it.’”
...
So we’ve finally reached a truce: she won’t send me scary videos demonizing the vaccines, and I won’t try to debunk what I consider crazy stuff.

I wish him luck. I hate to say it, but probably hell on earth at that household, unless he’s given in to letting her run the show.
Sadness.
i refused and never wore a mask from the beginning...
after reading bulwyf’s post it got me wondering...
You are correct. We have discussed this.
Unfortunately, divorce appears inevitable.
Isn’t 99.97% closer to the survival rate of Covid than the “good” experiences of those who got the JAB (no death, no Covid illness subsequent to getting the JAB, no neuromuscular problems, etc)?
No, you’re getting called on that.
By what measure is he the world’s TOP virologist? Because he holds a viewpoint that you agree with?
What a shock: the sister with a brain isn’t the one who lives in the San Fernando Valley.
Life is a terminal disease and abortion advocates consider life to be a parasite.
What? The ritual sacrifice of your body and future to the Deep State?
A lot of people wearing N95s, and I know a lot are made in China.
Of course nobody is mentioning the problems masks have caused, and the damage to our kids. They don’t mention the mouth diseases and headaches or lightheaded feeling people are getting or just the fact that contaminated particles will just stick to the front increasing one’s exposure to whatever is floating around.
You’ve got that engineer and anti-vaxxer comparison backwards.
Exactly, true Patriots will do just that.
An engineer and anti-vaxxer arrive at a bridge. The anti-vaxxer asks, “Is it safe to cross the bridge?”
Engineer: We built this bridge using a new, never-before deployed outside of the lab stabilizing platform. In the lab, we built 14,000 bridges using this new platform and 14,000 bridges using natural stabilizing approaches. After 14 days of driving, 5 of the bridges using the new plaform developed cracks vs 90 using the natural approaches. But none of the 28,000 bridges collapsed.
Anti-vaxxer: what happened after 14 days? That's not a long time to test stability.
Engineer: We don't know; we usually test these platforms for 2-3 years but we got an emergency authorization approval to use the new platform. I should also point out that 96% of the 14,000 bridges with the new platform had drivers that were sick thereafter; it's also possible some of those 96% sickened drivers became more cautious (some went home and stopped driving) and that behavior may have impacted the rate-of-crack formation on those 14,000 bridges. But in the end, nobody died in that 14 day period.
Anti-vaxxer: thanks for the full discussion. I'll take my 99.36% chance of not having a cracked bridge and my 100% avoidance of not getting sick in lieu of the 99.96% chance of not having a cracked bridge and my 4% avoidance of not getting sick, based on 14 days of observation. Maybe in 2-3 years I'll drive on the other bridge. Thank you very much.
Engineer: you're an anti-science idiot.
Vaxxer: I’ll dive right in. This water is fine.
it may be the chinese made masks are tainted...
It's this sort of creepiness that is making me reluctant to get this one. A "flu" with a 99.98 survival rate - I'll take my chances.
I'm sorry, but that's just plain inaccurate and totally not true whatsoever.
I personally know 7-8 people that have died FROM COVID. Not "with" COVID and were going to die ANYWAY from something else. They died FROM COVID. And not ONE of them were "elderly" or "infirm".
I also know a couple of 17-25 year olds (one a top high school athlete) that were in ICU, a 30-something year old in ICU, etc.
Quit falling for the spin - and I hate to say it, but it's true - "right wing talking points". COVID can take you out, regardless of your age, your perceived health, vitamin intake, perceived immune system, etc. And it can do so regardless of your age or perceived "health". Just ask the 51 year old guy I mentioned..he wasn't "elderly" (he was 51). He wasn't "infirm" as he was kind of a partying brawler. Fit as a horse. Thought his immune system would protect him. Classic FR story - "I'm strong..I'm (relatively) young..I don't have any health issues" etc etc etc.
Yeah, he's D-E-A-D today.
Go explain that one. Oh, I get it..someone failed him in his healthcare..if only they gave him HCQ and/or Invermectin..or..or..or..right.
Engineer: It is 99,97% safe to cross that bridge.
Anti-vaxxer: I’d rather swim.
This doesn't make any sense. The anti-vaxxer would walk across the bridge without any problem at 99,97%...a pro-vaxxer would want to take an airplane across so they could be 99,9999999999% assured to make it safely.
I don’t care if someone gets the jab one way or the other. Has zero impact on me
My brother and SIL had Covid and their Dr. recommended they take the vaccine anyway, my brother has not done well since, who knows if the vaccine caused it.
My GD who also had covid is being pressured by her employer to get it. She’s pregnant and will quit if they insist and start a private practice when she goes back to work after the baby is born.
We didn’t get it, most probably because after we had been exposed many hours and several days to our GD we dosed ourselves with Ivermectin and plan to continue every couple of months. We will then be protected from the variants, unlike those with vaccinations.
Not my fault. You make the wrong decision, you pay the price. Shrug.
