...I have been celebrating since February, when I got my first shot of the Moderna vaccine at a San Fernando Valley park. My sister Anita in Cleveland has spent the months since then worrying about me... Ever since COVID-19 vaccines became a reality, she’s been poring over articles and social media posts about hypothetical harms that most scientists debunk. That left her determined to shun the vaccine — and afraid for me to get my next shot.
...
...my fear of needing a ventilator to breathe was stronger than whatever apprehension I felt about the vaccines.
For my sister, that ratio was reversed. She worried that the new COVID vaccines might turn out, in the long run, to be as dangerous as the disease.
Our email exchange launched a back-and-forth that lasted for months. It was fractious and frustrating at times, because we are tethered to separate echo chambers that amplify our individual views.
...
“This is a new disease and these are new vaccines, with emergency use authorizations,” she said. “We have a lot of information on how safe and effective it is. But what hasn’t been studied is what it can do five or 10 years from now.
“So it’s totally reasonable for some people to say, ‘This is brand new and it’s hard for me to really feel comfortable with it.’”
...
So we’ve finally reached a truce: she won’t send me scary videos demonizing the vaccines, and I won’t try to debunk what I consider crazy stuff.

Maybe the ventilators did more harm than good compared to other treatment methods.
An engineer and anti-vaxxer arrive at a bridge. The anti-vaxxer asks, “Is it safe to cross the bridge?”
Engineer: It is 99,97% safe to cross that bridge. So we think you should swim.
Anti-vaxxer: I’d rather rather cross.
>>But my sister’s experience has been markedly different. Her social media feeds are crowded with conspiracy theories,
Do those “conspiracy theories” include a Chinese lab origin for Covid-19? Something that more experts and journalists are willing to give voice to (now)?
The virus is not that deadly unless you are elderly and infirm.
No, I doubt mask wearing idiots did ANY research on the effectiveness of masks since they do NOT work to contain the spread of a virus..
I don’t know what planet you’re on, or forum for that matter, but nobody here is denying that there are variants. The issue is whether or not they are worth worrying about. The biggest concern is how the powers that be will use the fear narrative over simple variants that are not likely to be any worse than the original.
Most of the people who died or were harmed by COVID died as a result of inappropriate medical treatment, or none at all. It’s beyond reprehensible that an effective prophylactic treatment that could have saved many lives was prohibited from being used just so as to get the EUA on their experimental injection.
You seem really smart. Why do you suppose the world’s top virologist is so concerned about the vaccines? Did he recently become an anti-vaxxer?
Who posted the “WHO KILLED ME?” post?
What's more dangerous, being injected with an experimental concoction or go to a park in the San Fernando Valley?
Phhhttt!
You’re really pathetic.
what type of masks were being worn and where were they manufactured?...
Exactly.
Karen failed to mention, or think of, that.
Your brother needs to WAKE her up.
The CDC said it was okay for people who actively were testing positive for Covid-19 to go wait in line and vote at the polls on election day.
This never has been about stopping the transmission of the virus.
“like this. If I’m right and these vaccines are harmful, idiots like this one will be dead or unhealthy in the long run.
If I’m wrong there’s no harm, no foul.”
You left out the foul or harm being dead from Covid.
Please stop making so much sense.
We pitched any and all masks MIC, very early on.
Very good question. I think the answer is Hope!
I wish he would. He’s late to the rw party. She’s certifiable.
Maybe Republicans, maybe even Right-Wingers, but not true Patriots.
True Patriots will stand for freedom against government tyranny and overreach “at the point of bayonet, if necessary” (Ronald Reagan).
Re: 6
Yes, that’s right. People that do not make the same decision that you did about being vaccinated are idiots.
Why do you get so triggered by people not making the same decision as you?
