...I have been celebrating since February, when I got my first shot of the Moderna vaccine at a San Fernando Valley park. My sister Anita in Cleveland has spent the months since then worrying about me... Ever since COVID-19 vaccines became a reality, she’s been poring over articles and social media posts about hypothetical harms that most scientists debunk. That left her determined to shun the vaccine — and afraid for me to get my next shot.
...
...my fear of needing a ventilator to breathe was stronger than whatever apprehension I felt about the vaccines.
For my sister, that ratio was reversed. She worried that the new COVID vaccines might turn out, in the long run, to be as dangerous as the disease.
Our email exchange launched a back-and-forth that lasted for months. It was fractious and frustrating at times, because we are tethered to separate echo chambers that amplify our individual views.
...
“This is a new disease and these are new vaccines, with emergency use authorizations,” she said. “We have a lot of information on how safe and effective it is. But what hasn’t been studied is what it can do five or 10 years from now.
“So it’s totally reasonable for some people to say, ‘This is brand new and it’s hard for me to really feel comfortable with it.’”
...
So we’ve finally reached a truce: she won’t send me scary videos demonizing the vaccines, and I won’t try to debunk what I consider crazy stuff.

I haven’t talked with my 68yo older liberal POS social justice, BLM supporting, covid vaccine brother in 12 years.
That’s the easiest way to deal with brain liberals.
Good grief. I called you a peach to defuse an obvious “we’re never ‘gonna agree” situation. And we won’t. Not after you employed the highly persuasive phrase “millennial pu—y”. I can’t complete with that logic. It’s too much.
Wow. You’re not all that intelligent are you? Your initial premise was flawed, claiming I was “triggered,” which led to me saying I wasn’t triggered because I’m not a millennial pu—y.
We’re not going to agree because you insist on attempting to force your belief in the vaccine on me. Not going to work.
For the last time because I’m bored with this. I accept the consequences of the minuscule chance of dying from covid, just as you accept the consequences of injecting untested garbage into your body.
I can’t argue my point with you because I’m not smart enough to do so! I yield.
Actually, no.
Even on FR......vaccinated folks are subjected to ridicule, demonizing, and scare tactics.......24/7
If Luc Montagnier is not the world’s top virologist, who is?
Well that’s just it, if you aready have an issue with immunity but you’re also a potentential risk to get the virus...getting the shot or not, both are high risk.
SOOO...you do a list and determine which side is less risky given your own situation. For me ‘not’ putting these elements into my system is the better choice.....
I have family who’ve had the virus, those who’ve taken the shot, and those who haven’t. Fortunately we aren’t arguing abut it one way or the other.
Yeah, that’s why major medical centers had their staff wear N95s or, in a pinch, KN95s when working on COVID floors..
Because “they don’t work”.
Riiiiiight.
Incidentally, the Journal of the American Medical Association strongly disagrees with your conclusion and would say you are 100% incorrect.

Now, who’s not “very bright”? Might want to learn a thing or two about virus particle size and mask particulate efficiency.
I won’t delve into anymore with you, there’s no point. Enjoy covering if that’s your thing. I will not do it. Period. Nobody will make me either. Nobody has the parts. Just simple facts for your simple mind.
True dat.
Actually yes.
We’re not talking about FR were I doubt what you say is true unless you’re incredibly thin skinned sensitive.
In the rest of the public vaxxers are way more numerous and more likely to be nasty Nancys.
That’s good!
I don’t get arguments from family either.......most are vaxxed.
99.97% means that three in ten thousand people to cross the bridge will die? That's one in 3333. I'm not sure I blame the person who decides to swim.
Beyond that, many anti-vaxers are concerned that the fatality rate will ultimately prove to be far larger - maybe even 100%.
I'm sorry, but that's just plain inaccurate and totally not true whatsoever.
The operative words are "not that deadly." In which case, metmom IS accurate and totally true.
Per the CDC's own COVID19 data, through May there has been less than 1 fatality per 100,000 citizens under 18 years of age with COVID19 on the death certificate. The per capita death total for older folks basically triples by age bracket. The fatality statistics are higher than the average for people 65+, i.e. the elderly (or, if that offends the 65-74 year olds, it's even worse for the 75+ crowd).
In addition, per this CDC page, studies have shown that COVID-19 does not affect all population groups equally. The risk of severe COVID-19 increases as the number of underlying medical conditions increases in an individual. The CDC page offers a rich pool of data and studies backing this assertion.
In addition, only 6% of all fatalities attributed to COVID19 had no comorbidities on the death certificate.
I totally agree, that "COVID can take you out, regardless of your age, your perceived health, vitamin intake, perceived immune system, etc.". This is a nasty bug that can kill you in the brain, lungs, kidney, and gut...it's almost like it was manufactured to be this ninja-like.
But data aren't spin.
The people I know who got the shot, mostly intensely liberal, elbowed their way to the lines and bragged about their experience.
Now they don’t want to talk about it. One got a horrific autoimmune skin rash, another was sick for 3 days and a third had convulsions.
Will the vaccine wear off and your system return to normal eventually?
Saving, to reread about Covid19.
Yep..pretty much everybdy in mine did what they wanted....although my brother would prefer I reconsider and get the shot.
