Servicing Paris Hilton's Old Mercedes SLR McLaren Costs As Much As A New Car
Jalopink ^ | % June 2021 | Elizabeth Blackstock

Posted on 06/06/2021 7:47:17 AM PDT by DUMBGRUNT

When Hilton bought her car new back in the day, she paid $463,000 for it. A newer buyer got it for the exceptional deal of $180,000 (the depreciation alone should have been a bad sign)... only to find that the service fees on it were, uh.... large.

That new buyer took the car in for an oil change and walked out with his wallet $34,565 lighter, like: “A Service,” which is not specific and is listed for $2,105 A new power steering pump, $2,22o A steering rack, $6,270 A Mercedes turbine-styled wheel to replace the bent one on the car, $1,899 OEM battery replacement, $1,350 Gas door struts, $2,500 Brake line mounts, $1,350 Tire pressure monitoring sensors, $1,700 Brake caliper cooling ducts, $1,250 Wipers, $105 Washer nozzle, $500 Gas cap tether, $100 Tire fit container, $215 Drain plug replacement $850 Among other things

Okay… but $6000.00? Although, considering that this Greenwich, CT and the dealership is the first Ferrari dealership in the US, I guess I shouldn’t be so shocked.

Paris is no doubt a high-maintenance ride.

With that kind of money somebody could have bought a case of 9mms.

Or, just as extravagantly, a pickup truck load of plywood.

“That is why I buy Toyotas”

From what I have been reading the foreign cars are now the same way.

You obviously haven’t priced blinker fluid/turn signal lube recently.

Texas is notorious for the annual vehicle inspection scam.

$3.5 million for a baseball card. $1000 for a bottle of wine. $2000 for a designer handbag. $1000 for a pair of shoes.

Why? Because you don't have one. And it makes me feel special to know that.

I may whine about the cost, but I paid it. I'll tell you all about it, too.

God Almighty, that woman never even changed the wiper blades on that car, much less the oil.

She only put 21,000 miles on it and she had bent one of the rims, broken the tether for the gas cap and worn the door struts out.

A friend of my parents who had an old Rolls Royce mentioned having been charged $500 for fixing the clock, back when $500 was real money.

One slight problem...the car didn’t have a clock.

Where have you been able to find summer blend nitrogen for your tires? We have a shortage in NV.

Depends on where you get your car inspected.

My “inspection” on my old VW is essentially a walk around.

I have owned two MB C class cars which are at the low end of the MB line. In both cases I purchased certified pre-owned with warranty.

Still you have to pay for routine service and you really need to do that at the dealer if you have a warranty claim. A service is about $500 for basically an oil change.

Under warranty I had between the two cars a trans replacement (4-Matic), a HVAC blower motor and a wheel. After the cars were out of warranty I did all of the service myself. A DIY oil change on a MB still costs about $85 and takes over an hour to perform. Replacing a rear license plate bulb requires removal of 14 fasteners, it is almost impossible to replace a front parking lamp without taking the entire bib apart. I can go on and on.

I now have a Toyota PU 4WD and honestly couldn’t be happier with it.

This is what makes them rich people’s cars - the maintenance costs. You can find examples of late ‘90s Ferrari 355 right now for under $100k. Good luck trying to keep that thing serviced, though.
