Weekly Garden Thread - June 5-11, 2021
June 5, 021 | Diana in Wisconsin/Greeneyes

The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.

This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.

NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

I’ve grown small batches of garlic in the past, but this fall I will have a dedicated bed for them, as Beau built me two more 4’x8’ raised beds earlier this spring.

Right now those beds are growing ‘gourmet’ tomatoes, which are the ones I like to grow for ‘fancy’ colorful platters and fresh eating, versus the ‘pedestrian’ varieties I grow for canning Salsa, V-8, Tomato Soup and Bloody Mary Mix.

I like a hardneck garlic, versus a softneck variety, because of the scapes, too!

😊Thanks for letting me know. Glad it works. Reminds me - I need to put vinegar on the grocery list.

Garden Decor Goals:

I did it! I finally got my own Crystal Toadstools assembled. Of course, I've already broken one, too. ;)

Even meaning to tell you, I made the buttery ranch mushrooms to pair with wine-braised short ribs for hubby for Father’s Day! Sooo good and will be making them again. I had the day get away from me, so instead of the crock pot method, I quartered the mushrooms, which weren’t quite button sized but the smallest I could find. Then I basically sautéed them according to the recipe. I started them off on medium high heat, then turned in down to med-low for 30-45 minutes. As I said, so good and my husband just loved them with the short ribs. Thanks again for the tip!
