How to Opt-Out of Amazon Sidewalk
howtogeek.com ^ | June 1, 2021 | CHRISTIAN COOPER AND JUSTIN DUIN

Amazon Sidewalk is a wireless standard that has advantages over a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection. However, there are privacy concerns, as it enables your smart home devices (such as Echo and Alexa speakers) to communicate with others outside of your home. Here’s how to disable and turn off Sidewalk.

First, to opt-out of Sidewalk on your Echo speakers and smart displays, open the “Amazon Alexa” app on your iPhoneiPad, or Android device, and make sure it’s been updated to the latest version. Next, tap the “More” tab at the bottom of your screen.

AT THE LINK, SCREEN IMAGES OF PROCESS TO OPT OUT.
ransomnote: I don't have devices so I haven't tried this process. There are other articles and videos that provide information to opt out of Amazon's 'Sidewalk'.

I opted out right away.

I don’t share my bandwidth. Not to mention obvious privacy concerns.

This is a very very bad idea.
Opt Out now if you use Alexa, Ring or Echo.

Personally, I doubt ‘opting out’ is enough. I think people need to disconnect. The computing world has been plagued with software that ‘accidentally’ turns on geolocation software over and over again (it’s intentional). Nothing to stop Amazon from having ‘issues’ with collection of information even though you are opted out. How can the average consumer prove that their devices are not part of the mesh, at least part of the day?

Disconnect/destroy is the only way to be certain. Even though I have none of these technologies, my neighbors have ‘RING’ or whatever camera is on the door, so our daily drive habits (cul de sac) are recorded. Being part of a network may lead hacking into wifi phone use or programming.

THey have evil plans which I refuse to participate in, but my neighbors and family have this technology so I can still be tracked.

There are other security and automations systems out there which don’t rely on China, Amazon or Google and are nearly 100% secure.
Now is the time for Americans to stop trusting technology and take back their lives.

My home is wired with 50 wifi and wired computers/devices and they are all 100% secure.

Amazon Sidewalk is a wireless standard...

Well no, it's a proprietary wireless protocol.

I am extensively home automated. Nothing I have is cloud based, all local. Believe me when I tell you that is very hard to accomplish today.

My smart thermostats are proliphix (circa 2008). Totally off grid controls

AC devices are tasmota. Beautiful lil toy that lets you see what is using what, energy wise.

My spouse and I both followed the instructions and could disable Sidewalk.

In fact, we couldn't find Sidewalk at all.

What is going on?

Just spent a considerable amount of time online with Amazon customer service and was told that many cannot opt out if their app doesn’t have that option under account settings. Ours does not so we just disconnected we had enjoyed listening to older music without commercials.
