‘Location Off Should Mean Location Off’: Google Hit With Lawsuit Over Data Collection ‘Schemes’
Epoch Times ^ | 5/31/2021 | Jack Phillips

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich says that Google continues to collect location data even after users turn off tracking on their smartphones and other devices, citing concerns from company employees about its data-collection practices, in the latest update of a lawsuit against the tech giant.

According to documents that were submitted in court by Brnovich’s office last week, emails that were sent among Google engineers expressed concerns about the company’s location data collection efforts after an Associated Press report in 2018; the engineers suggested that they believed the AP article was correct.

“So there is no way to give a third-party app your location and not Google? This doesn’t sound like something we would want on the front page of the [New York Times],” one employee allegedly stated in a newly unredacted section (pdf). “I agree with the article. Location off should mean location off, not except for this case or that case,” another Google employee stated.

One employee, according to the documents, stated that “real people” who use Google’s products “just think in terms of ‘location is on’, ‘location is off’ because that is exactly what you have on the front screen of your phone.”

Brnovich, a Republican, told Fox News that the documents suggest Google knew that it was collecting users’ information and that such a revelation would upset customers.

They make a gazillion dollars but that isn’t enough. They’ve got to squeeze every last cent out of us. It’s a sad day when US based corps are less trustworthy than your average third world despot.

at this point, the Big Tech cartel is the enemy. I welcome every regulation put on them by the states and every lawsuit filed against them. I even welcome the EU enacting blatantly discriminatory legislation against them because they’re not European. Whatever it takes. The Big Tech monopolies must be destroyed.

Any tech corporation that promises they are not tracking you are lying.

Period.

No exceptions.

How do we know this? Because there is zero chance that NSA/other Deep State actors are not tracking you, so the software has to be in place to do this.

It’s worse than that. They are a CIA/Deep State front whose very existence is to increase tracking and control over everyone. In an ultimately totalitarian way.

What most Americans don’t realize is that if it weren’t for the EU, the privacy landscape would be significantly worse for consumers. The American Congress has been wholly absent on this fight. When Google and Amazon spread the money around the halls of Congress, they expect results and they largely get them.

WIFI triangulation is what they use generally, GPS if available specifically to get your precise location. Even if you turn GPS off, but still have your WIFI on, it collects every WIFI id it can sniff out while you move around. It then downloads that info back to themselves over your cellular date so they can match the WIFI ID’s to triangulate your movement through the maze of already collected WIFI id’s creating a picture of where you’ve been and where you are possibly headed. Can’t turn this off unless you degoogle your phone or obtain one that already is.

Here is a link for those who want to know more about how your location is being tracked through various means. It’s pretty thorough but will give you a wider understanding of what is going on. Should have posted it in my other response. It’s from Rob Braxman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0_nXC30snk

They own Fitbit and all the information from it. I threw out my Fitbit when Fitbit sent out an email telling of this change. Google does not need to collect my heart rate data. Or where I walk.

sigint guys I know, say there is no way other than pulling your sim and battery —

And they are correct.

If you are driving a late 1990’s vehicle or newer, there is a path for vehicle tracking built-in by auto companies.

And today, virtually ball “ai” TV’s are designed to snoop through various means, including through router’s, including to your gui. Corporations then roughly capture some information from your browser/browsing history. And that is from your *ai TV.

We are royally screwed.

I have always assumed that tracking is on even when it is off.

I also assume the it is always recording, screening for keys words, and that the camera is always on.

NSA does not need big tech Apple or Google OSes to track you. They record ALL electronic emissions worldwide. Calls go through cell towers and satellites which are ALL covered. You call, they record and track.
