Never watched it...but I've seen him elsewhere. I'm too lazy to check wikipedia.

How much America has lost over such a short time. "Love Boat" then meant actual love, joy, fun and innocence. Now the term conjures up a Jeffrey Epstein type caper. An epic metaphor for the decline of a once great people and country.

I liked his portrayal of “Hunkle” in Operation Petticoat. He was a terrific foil for Tony Curtis.

He also played sweaty bad guys in westerns. He was much heavier in the late 50s.

I remember him in The Party (1968) as the movie producer who tried to bed Claudine Longet’s character.
I saw that movie not long ago on TCM (also have it in my DVD collection) and the one scene with MacLeod in it that had me shaking with laughter even the following day at work was when Bakshi (Peter Sellers) puts his hand in the ice with the caviar after the Denny Miller (RIP) character strongly shakes hands with him. Bakshi’s hand smells of the fish but then he immediately meets the producer played by MacLeod and they say hello and shake hands as MacLeod forgot that Bakshi was the one who blew up the movie set. Then shortly afterwards, MacLeod then shakes hands with the studio head Fred Clutterbuck (J Edward McKinley) and Fred notices the smell of fish on his hand.

We saw Gavin in a dinner theater play many years ago after he completed work on the Mary Tyler Moore show. When the play was finished, they took questions from the audience and I raised my hand to ask him what his next project was. He described his role as a captain for a cruise liner called “The Love Boat”. Seemed like a nice guy. RIP...

I recently saw a clip of him playing a drug dealer and pimp named “Big Chicken” in a 1969 episode of Hawaii 5-0.
Knowing what he became later, watching him play “Big Chicken” just seemed corny to me.
RIP
