Nearly 13-foot gator captured in Florida

MILTON, Fla. (WEAR) — Trappers captured a 12.9-foot gator Tuesday evening in the Wright Basin in Milton, Florida.

A woman who lives on Lakeside Drive in Milton called nuisance gator trappers, who arrived and captured the gator. It was then taken to a gator farm.

The men who captured the gator are Colby Cannon and Scott Bradley.

The woman says she’s also seen a six-foot gator and babies.

Officer Robert Ramos with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation says alligators rarely attack people intentionally.

However, he does say it doesn't hurt to call out their team.

“If you can look at an alligator and tell that it’s being aggressive, if it’s coming up toward people — you know that’s not a natural behavior we want. It should be going away from people. So if you see an alligator like that, please call us, because we will probably move that alligator because they shouldn’t be coming up to people, you know, in the middle of the day. It means that there is probably — or perhaps — hand feeding or something like that," Ramos tells Channel 3.

Ramos says who removes the alligator depends on the size.

The bigger the gator, the more likely licensed trappers will take over.

Homeowners in the area say alligators are pretty common in the area.

Bill Calfee has lived on the Wright Basin for 35 years, just a few houses down from where trappers caught the gator.

"It really is rare for this area to see one that big. You know, I've seen the little babies in the water," says Calfee.

FWC says if you feel threatened by an alligator you can call them and their officers will come out.

Those officers will then decide whether they or a contractor needs to remove the alligator.

I’ve heard that gators could, technically live forever as they just continue to grow, but eventually they get so big that they can’t digest enough food to keep themself alive.

That is, what eventually gets all of them is their dangerous lifestyle.

I ‘ve had a 5 or 6 ft one sunning in my back yard......
....in Florida if there’s a water area, there’s eventually gators
The golfers have to occasionally play around them
It’s life in Florida
But 13 feet!.....wow

Wow, there must be mental deficient alligators because the article says that they rarely INTENTIONALLY attack people.

Let me put it this way, alligator spots you and you look like food and it is hungry, it will whether intentional or not, take you under.

Florida has had gator hunting for years. That keeps a lid on the gators from getting big. The larger ones have been coming out of places like Alabama, which has allowed the gators to get larger due to less hunting.

Many moons ago, I was doing the parcours that lapped around two experimental cooling ponds at the University of West Florida. There with its head and shoulders buried in the bank of one of the ponds, I came upon what I estimated to be an 8-foot gator. The rest of the creature was on the path in front of me. About jumped out of my skin. Fortunately, the information kiosk near the entrance to the university was manned, and I backed up and reported the interloper. Up close and personal!

What they mean is that the gator is being relocated to a set of luggage and several pairs of boots and shoes.

It was then taken to a gator farm.

Gov. DeSantis should have arranged for it to be taken to D.C. as a “gift” from Florida. The floor of Congress would have been the perfect spot for its release.
