Black faith and community leaders draw crowd of 100 for ‘March Against Murder’ in N. Portland

More than 100 people gathered in North Portland on Saturday for a rally and march against gun violence organized by a group of Black faith and community leaders.

The so-called “March Against Murder” drew speakers from across the city, all of them Black men and one woman who has lost two sons to gun violence.

Their message: That both government officials and the community need to step up to curb the epidemic of gun violence that’s swept through the city.

Portland has had 33 homicides in 2021, including four in the past week and a half alone. That puts the city on track to surpass its annual record for homicides of 70, set in 1987.

Royal Harris, a Multnomah County Health Department employee and former gang outreach coordinator for the City of Portland, organized Saturday’s event and invited the slate of speakers.

“This is about the community,” Harris told the crowd. “This is about people who talk about this all the time.”

In a fiery speech that drew on his pastoral experience, Portland school board member-elect Herman Greene urged the crowd to reach out to Black boys and men, particularly those at risk of recruitment into gangs.

What they need to do is defund the police and set up BLM run no-go zones with Sharia Law. /s

Good for these people. I’m somewhat surprised that BLM did not show up to shout them down.

How about a March for black dads. Murder is a symptom; Dads are the cure.

But black lives dont matter is they are murdered by black thugs. According to BLM they only matter if they are killed in self defense by white cops.

“.....step up to curb the epidemic of gun violence...”

For this to work, it requires incentive. As gun violence has been the tool of gangs for a couple of hundred years, even those that worked for law enforcement, kind of, like Pinkerton in the mid 1800’s were using it to break strikes and protests. Wyatt Earp had shotguns hidden all over the towns he was working as a peace officer to pull out when it was needed at a moments notice. The only incentive these fools understand is loss.

Peaceful removal of gun violence is the same foolish theory used that has never worked. This is why law enforcement was established over gang rule which is just another gang. You can’t allow people to decide if they should stop senseless violence, they won’t. It’s the only way they can trust what they consider their trust of safety is the threat. If you are not prepared to carry out that threat, you will be conquered. So the only way to make people stop something, is to remove it from society. And to do that requires enough pain to get people to the table.

If our government leaders can’t do it without their threats to each other, why should they expect the citizens that put them there to do it against each other.

Glad they have the courage to do this. Sad only 100 show up. If they were looting and burning things, hoards would have participated.

Good people, whatever their skin color are being marginalized by violence and social media.

Photos at the site suggest not many blacks. There’s a Black Power / Commie fisting Karen, naturally...

Not a lot of black/white mingling going on...

This is good and not something I expected to see...

Maybe if these people spent more time on parenting and less time on protesting then their kids wouldn’t get into situations that lead to their death.

Nobody ever takes responsibility for anythig anymore, much less their own failings. Until these people realize that the government can't do jack squat, and the solution to this problem starts with mom and DAD at home, they'll get nowhere except further into a socialist hell.

70% of black babies are born to single parent households. Until that problem is fixed, all the resulting problems will continue.
