So when you charge this Pickup do you use Wind? Solar? Natural gas, coal.. Sometimes the charging stations will cost more than the Pickup especially if your house needs a rewire to accommodate this charging station.. What if you don’t have a garage or carport??
Tow 10,000 pounds? I might look into it.... Looks like a F-150, instead of Telsa:s truck which is ugly
It has a future, though a restricted one. Fleets? Doubtful when it comes to most. I know fleet guys that drive 1,000-1,500 miles a week. They don’t want to charge 3-8 times a week. I know, 300 mile range. The range under less than perfect conditions will be the key.
On the other hand, there are a lot of trucks bought today that don’t work. They carry some bags of garden soil home from Ace Hardware every spring. For those truck people, this could be a great solution. Also, I think Tesla just got bumped right out of the pickup truck biz. When it comes to pickups the Ford brand is untouchable.
No thanks.
Has the battery been tested in temperatures around 0 degrees F?
Might work okay for people living below the 45th parallel.
Yeah, if I’m working the oil fields in North Dakota it’s not a good option.
But if I’m running a carpentry business in Dallas I’m going to save a bunch of money by using this truck, plus I have a place to charge my tools.
“The big surprise is the $40K price. “
Meaning it is selling at a loss.
They couldn’t find someone more attractive to present it than a fat ugly Asian woman? What happened to HOT girls at new car intros?
“driving range of about 300 miles on a single charge.”
That’s not available at $40k, that’s the $53k and up models.
It’s also set on a level track with no stop and go, cruise control on, windows up, no ac, moderate temperature outside etc., etc.
My favorite commercial of this type was a Caddy ad in magazines back in the 70’s. It showed a picture of a beautiful big Caddy rolling down the highway in Arizona and proclaimed an impressive mileage number accomplished on a trip from Arizona to California. What wasn’t mentioned was that the highway in question is downhill the entire way when driving west. Car guys, you gotta love ‘em!
Dallas? I beg to differ. A/C alone and the traffic there means a lot of down time charging, and a lot of planning, unlike gasoline. There will be some, just like Teslas, second vehicles for showing off.
We’ll know that EV are making progress when a few million households are all EV, rather than the extra toy car in the third stall, like a Corvette or Porsche.
They had Biden driving one. NBC is pushing this truck big time with Jimmy Fallon in ads for it.
Charges 3 miles in an hour at 120 volts.
Bwahahahahahahahahahah
So what do you think a realistic number is when towing off road, 200, 150, 100 ???
Yeah, I would want to be stuck out in the middle of the woods camping without a charging station ...
8 hours of down time to recharge. Reportedly if you want to charge it from your home you need a 80 watt circuit.
Off reading?
When you run out of fuel in the boonies, just pop open the 5 gallon jerrycan and pour in some fresh kilowatt hours.
And no winter heater.
Electric vehicles is barking up the wrong tree. The range is too limited and recharge time too long. If it was a hybrid, even a plug in one, it would make more sense, even with reduced range on batteries. It would be good enough for short trips and for longer ones, the generator/engine would kick in. IIRC, McClaren racing and Porsche have developed synthetic gasoline from methanol which the fuel is hydrogen based and you can use it in any internal combustion engine with no modification. They say the emissions are very low or none at all. That is the more logical way. EV’s are good for short runabout trips but beyond that niche, forget about it. Between this new Ford and my friend’s 1919 Model-T pickup, I’d take the Model-T
You WILL like them...or else!
Perhaps they are not the CEE’s at a top 3 auto manufacturer.
Lightning is BORING without thunder!
This isn’t a work truck. It’s a style truck.
