Sugar is the enemy to heart health
I’ll go ahead and tell Freepers, you take statins and you’re a moron. More drug company BS. The side effects are numerous and some are permanently debilitating.
I’m now on 80mg of Atorvastatin daily, and have the muscle pain side effects. My 2 Cardiologists and PCP (Primary Care Provider) of 26yrs, insist that I stay on it, for my CHF, 5 heart stents for bundle blockage. CBD Pro-Level 5 Pain Ointment helps assuage the L/S hip, thigh, knee and shin pain, so I can exercise once again.
Statins can cause damage to the heart muscle and also cause strokes.
I have had to go through 4 doctors to find one that is not constantly asking me about my decision to not take statins.
for those with heart disease, developing heart disease, and/or a genetic propensity for heart disease, one of the best supplements you can take is Vitamin K2 MK-7 ... lots of legitimate, published research that shows that this vitamin plays an essential role in keeping calcium in the bones and out of the tissues ...
Misled by the evidence??
Well ... were you following the science??
Seriously: some scientists just care about money from Big Pharma and they can mislead other scientists.
A bowl of oatmeal three or four times a week keeps my cholesterol in check. Cut total cholesterol from 260 to 190, and LDL from 175 to 114. Recent carotid artery scan had me clean as a whistle, I am 66.
I have wondered if statins, like so many other drugs treat a symptom without without actually fixing anything. Research has noted that people with heart problems strongly tend to have high cholesterol, particularly LDL therefore lowering cholesterol will reduce their heart disease. Statins effects the symptom of high cholesterol so we assume it fixes what is wrong.
However the body makes cholesterol to counter damage in the body. We now know that cholesterol in our diet has very little to do with how much is in our blood stream. In a person with high cholesterol the body senses something is damaged and is trying to fix it. Statins interfere with cholesterol production so if something is damaged and the body needs to fix it, statins prevent that. The more effective solution is to figure our what is getting damaged and how and fix that. If statins do that, so be it, but the current model as presented by doctors seems too simplistic.
My personal opinion is our diets have too much sugar, particularly fructose, and other chemicals our body has a difficult time processing so it develops irritation and inflammation. The irritation and inflammation trigger cholesterol to counter them. If we fix our diets we fix a myriad of problems that includes the inflammation triggering cholesterol production and we stop contributing to damage that results in heart disease.
I look forward to watching this video when I have some time.
Doctors prescribe drugs. It’s what they do. Some patients think doctors are godlike. Some doctors think they’re god. The combination can lead to bad results.
Father and paternal grandfather both had heart attacks in their late 50’s early 60’s. I’m middle child and 66. Been taking statins for 20 years and no evidence of heart disease. Same with all my siblings except one older sister - not sure if she ever was on them or not.
I’m attributing improvements to the statins but like they say, YMMV.
I was trialed on 4 statins and niacin. Had very bad reactions to all. Muscle pain and arthritic changes that have become permanent. Niacin sent me to the ER twice with terrible hives and hyper sensitive skin. Couldn’t stand anything to touch me. Literally wanted to jump out of skin.
My triglycerides have been very high since my teens. A stress test two years showed clean arteries. I’ll take my chances living naturally. BTW, I’ll be 70 in November.
I join those who have had good statin drug results this far.
When it comes to leg cramps, forcefully straighten your leg—and it will go away. My cramps happen at night every two weeks or so.
My MD OK’d CoQ-10 as a supplemental.
