Do you have a favorite folder knife?
Question for you ^ | 5/18/21 | rebelbase`

Posted on 05/18/2021 7:26:44 PM PDT by Rebelbase

Hello FReepers. I am curious about your favorite folder knife. I'm looking for recommendations from people who carry for every day use. Preferably made in the USA and want to stay under $100 but will consider higher.

Do not want a cheap stainless blade. Need something that sharpens to shaving level.

Thank-you in advance.

Some of the Kershaw Leeks are under $100 and use 14C28N steel which is the first choice in the linked article that ConservativeMind posts at link 12

I haven’t bought a harmonica in over 20 years. Besides Honor and Lee Oskar are there any other brands that worth looking into?

Yes it is variable speed. The Ken Onion uses 5 different graduated grits and also sharpens one side of the blade on the upstroke, the other on the down stroke.

I, also use a strop as a final finish to bring it to shaving sharp.

Seydel !!!!!!!!!!!

Stainless steel reeds — five times the service life.

Blues harps, Chromatic, Tremelo, Big Six, Octave, custom keys and tuning. Richter, Paddy Richter, Melody Maker, Half-Valved Gizzell tuned (easy bending) Will Wilde Rock tuned — the list goes on and on. Low tuned, high tuned, gold plated — Seydel does it all.

For harmonica amps, try Lone Wolf

Thanks. Just looked at the Seydel, Lee Oskar and Marine Band prices. 35-40 bucks for the last two. I remember buying my first Marine Band for $4 in the ‘70s and paid $20 for a Lee Oskar in the late ‘90s.

Is that named after the Lee Oskar who was the harmonica player in War?

I also checked a link. Lone Wolf now only sells their effects pedal boxes, delay, reverb etc. They have sold out the line of Harp Train Amps they made which is a sad loss. For 300 bucks it was the best Harp amp in the world comparable to amps at 1800.

S&W licenses Taylor Cutlery to make their knives.

My last job the agency owner’s son frequently came in. One day he had a folding knife with him.

We chatted for a bit and I advised him that he should never, NEVER use a knife in a stabbing action without a bolster/guard/quillion unless his desire was to slice his hand or cut off his fingers.

i.e. ‘proper use/technique’, not that movie shit.

I carry a folding knife only for opening boxes (Gerber. POS); my kit has a 24” machete and a dagger of a brand I cannot recall.

For the record, I bought my boy a Zero Tolerance Model 0100 to take to Afghanistan and he was the envy of all others. Anyone who can find them used will score a most awesome knife (they are long discontinued).

If I was looking for a new knife, it would be ZT, but I know nothing about their new line of manual/assisted folding knives.

“Something that sharpens to shaving level?”

Why not just get a straight razor?

It’s about the blade steel. China turns out millions of knives with a mix of cheap crap that doesn’t even get close to real blade steel. Good luck trying to sharpen it.

Look for something with ATS-34, 154CM(later CPM154). There are some swedish/german/... steels, but not plentiful enough to suggest. The price would rise well above your expectations.
