UAP has been used a long time among the UFO community; both NICAP and APRO incorporated the terminology somewhat in their titles.

But I don’t recall that it really become commonly used until Hillary Clinton used it. Maybe she had been ‘coached’ by people who thought it a good idea to associate the phenomena with a new and more ‘intellectual’ acronym - for whatever reason.

I’ve seen them...several times in my life. Why do people assume these things are from another planet? Could it be something else, like another country’s breakthrough technology? Or maybe from our own earth..from some inside cavern, or from Antarctica...from some ancient race that has superior technology and has remained hidden..or from another dimension? Or even spiritual phenomenae from God, or even Satan? Why does everyone assume they are from another planet? We think we know everything. I think sometimes we are as ignorant as lab mice.

They're not all One Thing.

Some are normal aerial things seen but not understood; some are atmospheric effects. Some have been experimental aircraft, some have been the result of mistaken sensory data or psychological phenomena.

Some of the most interesting theories I've heard are variations on the theme that some - or at least the observable effects of some - represent a life form natural to Earth, but one that we just don't understand or recognize yet.
