It appears some mountain lions appear quite comfortable at a home in Rapid City, South Dakota.
According to Annie Mueller, who lives at the home, the mountain lions visited at approximately 6 a.m., 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Tuesday, and returned at 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
Security camera video from Tuesday morning even shows one of the cougars checking out Mueller’s front door before climbing up on a bench.
Historically, mountain lions have lived throughout South Dakota, with many located in the Black Hills, according to the state’s Game, Fish and Parks department. Their population declined in the 1900s due to unregulated hunting, and bounties were placed on mountain lions until 1966. They were listed as a threatened species in South Dakota in 1978.
In 2003, mountain lions were removed from the state’s threatened species list and classified as a big game animal, the GF&P said on its website. The first mountain lion hunting season was established in 2005 as an “experimental season” and continues to be implemented as a management tool to keep populations at a desired level.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, an adult male mountain lion’s home range is typically more than 100 square miles, and the female’s is approximately 20 to 60 square miles. An adult male can be more than eight feet long and weigh between 130 to 150 pounds, while the adult female can be seven feet long and weight between 65 to 90 pounds.
Mountain lions can be found wherever deer are present, the U.S. Forest Service said on its website. Usually, their habitat is steep, rocky canyons or mountainous terrain.
Looked like a mama and her two cubs. Most likely hungry looking for food.
I see them around on occasion up here.
They like laser pointers. Just fun to watch big cats chace them
None of that stuff.
So far, NH still tops the list.
I would keep them around to run off solicitors
Yep, I suspect the home owner has been setting food out for them............not a smart thing to do.
A couple of years ago woman printed picture and put it on youtube..It was a croc or alligator trying to climb her front door..IN THE SUBURBS........

There are a lot more deer in the town I live in.
Rumor has it people’s pets have been disappearing from their fenced yards.
I’m certain the cats are coming into the town too
Occasionally the big cats make it to eastern South Dakota where attacks on cattle and horses have been reported.
You got Massholes.
They are in Wisconsin and Illinois too.
” cottonmouth rattlers,”
That sends shivers up my spine.
I’ve been doing that and all I’ve got are three coons and two possums and the occasional deer.
Hi.
In the fwiw department, in the three homes I’ve owned in the state of FL (St. Pete, Oldsmar and Land O Lakes), the wildlife has been in abundance.
Deer, turkey, boar, bobcats, otters, alligators etc.
Other game and non game as well.
Walk out the back door, dinner.
5.56mm
Good thing these people don’t have a doggie door.
My brother lives in Central Florida and it is certainly not rural by any stretch of the imagination. They’ve got coyotes grabbing pets. People are being told not to walk their pets outside certain hours. And black bears, although I believe the coyotes are more numerous. My brother had a black bear come onto his porch and look through his sliding glass door at him. This is a gated community in a highly populated area.
