We needed their expertise. Can you imagine the setback in our missile program if the communist grabbed them?
I also believe we did not do anything to the japanese doctors who experimented on allied prisoners with biological diseases. I think they got a slap on the wrist. Maybe one or two was jailed or executed.

There is a Netflix series centered around Operation Paper clip. I believe it is called Hunters. It is about hunting down Nazis that came to America as part of Operation Paper clip.

The researchers involved in Unit 731 were secretly given immunity by the United States in exchange for the data they gathered through human experimentation. The Americans did not try the researchers so that the information and experience gained in bio-weapons could be co-opted into their biological warfare program, much as they had done with German researchers in Operation Paperclip.
