The U.S. Navy announced Sunday that it seized an arms shipment of thousands of assault weapons, machines guns and sniper rifles hidden aboard a ship in the Arabian Sea, apparently bound for Yemen to support the country's Houthi rebels.

An American defense official told The Associated Press that the Navy's initial investigation found the vessel came from Iran, again tying the Islamic Republic to arming the Houthis despite a United Nations arms embargo.

it does provide some cover for US actions against bad actor nations on the high seas

So Yemen is at war with Saudi Arabia.

Who is the "bad actor" here? We should be working to make sure they both lose.

Why did we intervene in Europe to stop Hitler?

We didn't.

Germany declared war on the United States.

Yemen is proxy for Iran. Iran is still waging war and terrorism campaigns against many nations, not just SA.

OK I am intervening here on Jim Noble's part because we both signed up here on the same day.

So just like we did in WWI we waited till these dysfunctional euro families slaughtered millions of one another and then got involved.

So it was a late involvement not a intervention - those happen much earlier.

I could be totally wrong.

Iran declares war on the US every day. And you didnt answer the question.

We dont need to go around and police the world, but history shows that when threats do exist, like illnesses, its best to treat early rather that let them metastasize to where expensive and risky surgery is required.

The US hung out of Europe in WWII until Pearl Harbor, by which time Hitler controlled the European continent. Lots of what if’s, but what if the Allies had intervened sooner? Might have save millions of lives, including fewer losses of US soldiers.

Please dont be myopic when citing history.

Easy for you to say - in 1938 most of Euroland was still licking their wounds from WWI, were still broke or owed $$$ to USA, and they couldn't fathom more bloodshed. So the idea of actually attacking Germany in '38 or '39 was just not supported by the populace.

The Poles tried intervening but they were busy getting shellacked.

The point was, what are the lessons of history that apply to containing aggressor nations like Iran, NK, or even China, today?

We can wait until we have a full on war that directly or indirectly hurts us as a nation, or we can use whatever means short of war (economic, political, military force) to deter or stop those bad actors from doing worse harm if left unchecked.

Dealing with evil will always have a price. Pay me now or pay me later.

Well your point is valid but I think most of us are super leery of sticking our neck out too far - if US servicemen get injured or killed during these interventions... that can lead to escalations and then more unending deep state wars.

I am not all that keen on getting involved with Moslem-on-Moslem internecine wars.

Trump gave us possibilities for letting the ME nations work their own issues, something no other admin before Trumps even tried, much less succeeded in doing. I was skeptical at first of his strategy, but in the end, he almost got us out of the ME and put AQ and ISIS in a hurt locker. Four more years and the ME would be a different place.

Biden and company will eff that all up. So I am skeptical of intervention as well because I dont trust the politicians in charge, but not because I think intervention is wrong. Evil should be confronted. The evil coming from Iran is not just Arab vs Arab. Its also Islam vs all infidels.
