A man hiking a Missouri trail was shot over the weekend by a hunter who mistook him for a turkey, police say.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, St. Charles County police responded to the Lewis and Clark Trail, the agency wrote in a Facebook post.
A hunter thought the hiker was a turkey and shot him, police said.
Rescue crews used a utility task vehicle to remove the man from the wooded area before he was flown to a hospital “with serious, life threatening injuries,” a spokesperson for the St. Charles Ambulance District told KMOV.
The incident is under investigation.

Is there ANY crime Biden's son can commit, and still avoid prosecution?
Bulls%^&. They should truly investigate this garbage. A deer in one thing. Turkey - Really???
Yeah, that’s over by St. Louis. City boy trying to hunt. I notice an article right under it about local news in Calirado. No names given in the article, of course. ;)

Wild turkey:
A man:
You know what’s a superhighway for wildlife? A dual 500kV power transmission easement. ROW is probably 600’ wide or more.
This hunter should never be allowed to touch a gun for the rest of his life. Anybody who shoots another man should never have a hunting liscense for the rest of his life.
Anybody who cannot tell a man from a turkey is not able to ever hunt again.
#1 Do Not Feed the Deer
#2 Do Not Chase the Turkeys
Living in Texas, we are blessed with enough private places to go hunting, so you generally know who is on your land (unless it’s near the border)... you couldn’t pay me to go hiking or hunting on public land during turkey season for this reason.
Dove hunting is much for fun in my opinion.. If want to sit in the bushes all day and not move, I’ll roll my car into the ditch!
And NOT pointing a shotgun at people is a bad rule; or do you object to identifying your target before you pull the trigger?
Those rules apply to ANY firearm
Some states allow rifles, SD, TX and AR used to when I hunted. And somehow I never managed to shoot another person Probably because I knew what I was shooting
I have seen some pretty big wild turkeys but none as large as a hiker.
Maybe Wild Turkey was involved?
Why do hiking trails go through prime turkey hunting land?
how about a sign at the trail head saying Turkey Hunt Today, Trail closed till 1:30 pm
Maybe the hiker had a really long beard.
Never trot on hiking trail during turkey hunting season.
I don’t hunt but If it was needed there are Turkey and Deer in the front yard.
Did a lot of hiking and climbing when I was younger but never did it during hunting season for the exact reason this hiker got shot.
This is the same area where a guy gut shot a deer in an unusually warm deer season, put it on his car hood, then drove the thing around on that hot hood guts and all day and night Friday to show it off...
...then tried to bring it to us to process Saturday morning.
We could smell it coming from 3 blocks away. “No sir, you’re not bringing THAT here!”
Turkey hunters don’t shoot many hikers either.
Hikers should be wearing blaze orange during hunting season.
Maybe not. But I never go into hunting areas without wearing identifiable clothing. Doing otherwise is just stupid.
