SAN ANTONIO —The Alamo needs a makeover; on that, at least, everyone agrees. Plaster is flaking off the walls of the nearly 300-year-old former Spanish mission, the most revered battle site in Texas history...
...A $450 million plan to renovate the site has devolved into a five-year brawl over whether to focus narrowly on the 1836 battle or present a fuller view that delves into the site’s Indigenous history and the role of slavery in the Texas Revolution...

George P Bush, nephew of W.
I recall him using the word “reimagine” when talking about the Alamo renovation. Enough said.
From what I’ve read Mexico abolished slavery in 1829.
YET fifty years later you could still buy slaves in Mexico, mostly American Indian children captured in the US Southwest.
It was very disheartening the last time I visited the Alamo. It has been transformed from a shrine into a cheap tourist attraction.
The actual Alamo Mission is not that big but the entire complex is quite extensive. Bigger than a city block I’d say.

Ozzy Osborne’s pee is taking longer and more cleansers than first thought.
Yes, he did pee on it and was banned from San Antonio.
P’s fingerprints all over the $$$$$$$.
You’re right. It should still and always be with the DRT.
Right; here in NJ our worthless governor has starting flying Mississippi’s flag again (since it was changed), yet our own flag is the same one we used when NJ was a slave state (yes, we were a slave state prior to the Civil War).
As soon as the blactivists figure that out, NJ will have a new flag as well.
Absolutely not. It was once owned by Lee, and then it was confiscated by Lincoln and the North. I know they sued, and won a small pittance as recompense after the war, if I remember correctly.
Esta mierda otra vez? Just leave the renovations to REAL Texans-the ordinary ones like me who just want our Alamo maintained and respected like the shrine of Texas liberty that it is, along with San Jacinto, Goliad and several other historical sites-no added history crap, no Disneyland paint jobs and attractions-just the history of the battle and what it meant to our independence-nothing else needed-they need to give the Alamo back the the DRT-they at least respected it...
I’m Hispanic/Tejana-most of us do not want to be belittled as “one of P Bush’s relatives”-my ancestors lived in W Texas since the 1780’s-not near the Alamo in 1836-but their loyalty was with those fighting for independence-they left Mexico in the first place to get away from the then-Spanish government-many more Hispanic Tejanos-simple ranchers and farmers like them-had no love for Mexico-mostly the wealthy elites were loyal to Santa Ana-those who benefited from taxing and ruling over the common people with an iron fist-sort of like democrats do today...
Amen-the DRT did a good job of keeping the Alamo a revered historical site...
Little P isn’t a Texican. His mother is a Mexican and Little P has more ties to Florida than to Texas.
The Centopath honors all Texicans and Americans who fought against Santa Ana. Plenty of Spanish surnames amongst the defenders.

As a Tejana from a very old family, I take seriously any messing with the Alamo by those wanting to turn it into anything other than what it is-the site of the battle that gave the war for Texas Independence the match that lit all the tinder piled up and led to victory at San Jacinto-it stands on its own...
I wish George P would go to Florida and stay there-he could design exhibits for Disneyworld-but I doubt gov DeSantis wants him any more than he wants Jeb...
I know about all the jokes regarding the DRT over the years-when I was in HS and college they were known as the little old ladies in tennis shoes and considered a bunch of eccentrics-but those little old ladies in tennis shoes-eccentric or not-maintained the historical character and significance of the Alamo-even if they were a little extreme at times-and kept it from becoming just a Disney-like tourist attraction-I say give the care of the Alamo back to the DRT-it is a historical site-not an amusement attraction...
I mean the continuation of such animosity, 156 years after Appamatox is insane--absolutely insane!
Indeed, by implication, doesn't the ongoing celebration of a revival of such hatred also imply a vicious repudiation of all Biblicslly based theology? Think about it!!
Renovate the Alamo and surrounding area as well as build a large museum.
“Arlington Cemetery is on land once owned by Robert E Lee. “
Owned through his wife. Arlington was built by and the property of George Washington Parke Custis, the grandson of Martha Washington. George and Martha raised Parke Custis as their own son when Parke’s father died at Yorktown.
Robert E Lee married Mary Anna Custis, Parke Custis’ daughter, Martha’s g-granddaughter. When Parke died in 1857 Lee and his wife inherited Arlington.
