Preparation for Russia's extravagant annual victory day parade have been held in Moscow's Red Square on Friday ahead of the 76th anniversary of Nazi Germany's surrender and the end of the Second World War.

The huge celebration is held every year on May 9, a day after Western Europe celebrates VE Day on May 8 due to the time difference between Russia and other Soviet Bloc countries, and Central European Time.

Thousands of glamorous soldiers have been pictured during a dress rehearsal for Sunday's event, which will see the military demonstrate its might in Moscow's Red Square in front of the Kremlin and President Vladimir Putin.

I watched the parade via YouTube. They have the right to celebrate considering what they went through in World War II. The highlight for me are the T-34s and other vintage equipment. Also, the stunning women on parade. I do fine the mixture of Red Army and motifs from Tsarist Russia interesting.

I would think that goose stepping would be a thing of the past, considering the Nazi connection.

But not in Russia, I guess.

Setting back, reminiscing of the good old days at the Fall of Berlin.
When they finally left, there was a little Russian in many of the German women.

Russia is still Russia, despite the fall of the Soviet Union.

The USA not so much, despite the institutional continuity.

The best thing they do in Russia, is the “Immortal Regiment” where people march carrying the pictures of their ancestors who fought the Nazis. It was something that was started spontaneously, not by the government, but has become a tradition in Russia.

Because Russia understands that your history is your history and doesn't throw out the baby with the bathwater, in the way that the West seems to be doing these days.
