BEIJING (AP) — The largest section of the rocket that launched the main module of China’s first permanent space station into orbit is expected to plunge back to Earth as early as Saturday at an unknown location.
Usually, discarded core, or first-stage, rockets reenter soon after liftoff, normally over water, and don’t go into orbit like this one did.

The sky is falling.
Likely... soon...
That's some powerful reporting right there...
Hope it hits Yogi Bear(Xi Jinping) right in the eye
It will make a good light show...................
“The nonprofit Aerospace Corp. expects the debris to hit the Pacific near the Equator”
A couple hours ago, nobody had a clue and said they wouldn’t know where it will hit until a few hours before re-entry. How did Aerospace Corp. suddenly figure this out?
>> Likely soon...
Unlikely later...
Oh noes!
It’s full of viruses and nanotech and gonna kill us all!
Likely?
Well it’s not going to float away!
That would be Winnie the Pooh. Apparently he hates being called that. When they invade they will have to catch me.
They took a look at the orbit pattern and shaded in all the areas where the rocket body could land. Probably well over half of the possible splash zone is Pacific ocean (Pacific ocean being huge and all). It is just as likely to land at any one spot in the Pacific as it would be to land on a taxi in Times Square, but there are billions of spots in the Pacific and only a few places you can park a taxi in Times Square.
What are the odds that this Chinese Space Case slams into the Oval Office in Wash, D.C.?
I’ll bet the Joi Reid types would find someway to blame Trump for it.
Karl Rove used to get blamed for hurricanes.
The joke was, Rove had a ‘back room’ full of Weather Machines and classified gizmos at his disposal!
Yeah, but this morning nobody had a clue when or where it would land. If it is tumbling, then I think it’s almost impossible to predict when it will de-orbit.
This is why the Apollo rockets were launched from Cape Canaveral, so the first and second stages of the huge Saturn V rockets would fall over the ocean.
Our navy has missiles that can hit satellites in space. This would be a good opportunity for target practice.
“Our navy has missiles that can hit satellites in space. This would be a good opportunity for target practice.”
I had the same thought.
You and me FRiend.
