Every tattoo thread on this forum brings out the sanctimonious prigs who appoint themselves to judge the rest of us who might be sporting some ink. They can all take a long walk off a short pier.

Yup. They're the squares, prigs and the obese Wal-Mart losers walking the streets in giant white tennis shoes, bermuda shorts and Harley Davidson shirts.

The absolute dregs of society, staring at you behind cheap, coke bottle bottom glasses flecked with snot, talking about how the Bible expressly forbids tattoos - LOL

It’s also against the Bible to mix wool and cotton, eat shellfish and pork, to trim your beard, to wear pants if you’re a woman, and to be around a woman during her period.

You’re also required to to stone to death any sons who are disobedient, people who commit adultery and people who blaspheme.

Thank God we don’t live under the ancient Biblical code for Jews, though!

By the way, I have no tattoos, neither do I know anyone with tattoos. It’s because I think they’re disgusting, though...not because I’m an ancient Israelite who’s sworn to uphold Yaweh’s covenant with His people after He brought them out of Egypt!

I used to travel extensively in my first career as a bank examiner. We were in Nashville examining a trust department and I was out walking down the sidewalk on Broadway after work. I noticed this sweet little black lady who had crocheted potholders and was selling them.

I picked one out to buy and gave her $50 for that little pot holder. Tears of joy ran down her face. She was real; she was sincere. I still have the pot holder. It was a moment I remember vividly. She needed the money more than me.

The subject is not getting a tattoo because the Old testament law forbids it, as it also forbids trimming your beard, mixing wool and cotton and eating shellfish.

If one obeys the OT law on tattoos, wouldn’t he also be required to obey the law in other areas? Or did God say “obey My law against tattoos but ignore My law against eating pork and shellfish?

As a kid at the beach I saw Navy sailors with tattoos and asked my grandfather about them. He said: tattoos were the marks of criminals and the insane, that only a fool would grab hold of something he couldn't turn loose of, avoid them.

I've Got A Tiger By The Tail -- Buck Owens

And thanks, rlmorel, for the classic "Tattoo Locations" diagram at post 128. I had forgotten that the "Socially acceptable rebellious tattoo zone" is marked in green.

On account of the assorted Biblical and/or judgmental comments...

I've got a tiger by the tail and only a fool would grab hold of something he couldn't turn loose of, so concerning the Torah (fools rush in, because only Israel said "yes" to the dress, an American reality television series on TLC):

Ben Bag Bag said: Turn it over, and [again] turn it over, for all is therein. And look into it; And become gray and old therein; And do not move away from it, for you have no better portion than it.

Important, flipped over story:

Tattoos are also the mark of victims of the Holocaust, the Jewish ID that never. washes. off:

The word "tora" literally means "tiger." But it was a code phrase signalling that the Japanese attack force had achieved surprise. When the Japanese planes flew over Pearl Harbor and saw that no one was expecting them, they said "tora tora tora" to report back to command that they'd succeeded in reaching the base without anyone on the American side catching wind of their plan.

...At least that was what happened in the movie!

And,

totsugeki raigeki (突撃雷撃)

Sudden attack. Lighting attack.

Aka surprise quick attack.

https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-meaning-of-Japanese-order-Tora-Tora-Tora

Here is the last verse of the Torah (the tail end, the last word, Israel):

Deu 34.12. And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great and awesome deeds which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel:

chatul [חָתוּל, cat]

Tail Position: High

When your cat holds their tail high in the air as they move about their territory, they're expressing confidence and contentment. A tail that sticks straight up signals happiness and a willingness to be friendly. And watch the tip of an erect tail. A little twitch can mean a particularly happy moment.

Tail Position: Curved Like a Question Mark

You might consider taking a break from your daily business to play with your cat if you notice a curve in their tail. This tail position often signals a playful mood and a cat that's ready to share some fun with you.

The Tales Your Cat's Tail Tells

As is, the web-generated translation off of the Hebrew Wiktionary page (def. 2):

chitul [חִתּוּל]
‎1. Biblical tongue -- ‎‎bandage, a cloth wrapped around a wound to stop bleeding or protect the affected area.‎

‎"Man, I broke the arm of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and behold, she did not bandage to give healings to any ‎‎cat‎‎, to bandage it to hold and to seize with a sword"‎‎ ‎‎(‎‎Ezekiel 30‎‎:‎‎22‎‎).‎
‎ ‎2. The ‎‎sheet ‎‎is wrapped around the ‎‎loins ‎‎of a ‎‎baby‎‎ or a person who is unable to control his‎‎ needs‎‎, and its function ‎‎is‎‎ the ‎‎absorption‎‎ of ‎‎his secretions‎‎.‎ ‎
‎In order to maintain the hygiene of the‎‎ diapers‎‎, they should be boiled after each use.‎
‎Today, cloth diapers are used mainly to keep the baby clean when caring for the baby such as spreading under it when ‎‎diapering‎‎.‎
‎My baby brother, happy hour, was weaned from ‎‎diapers‎‎.‎‎
Also on that link in the example statements for "chatul": ‎‎
It is a well-known fact that ‎‎a cat ‎‎always falls on its feet.‎‎‎

A famous parable (mashal) is The Messiah at the Gates of Rome (Sanhedrin 98a 16-18)...

He sits among the poor who suffer from illnesses. And all of them untie their bandages and tie them all at once, but the Messiah unties one bandage and ties one at a time. He says: Perhaps I will be needed to serve to bring about the redemption. Therefore, I will never tie more than one bandage, so that I will not be delayed.
(Definitely a wise plan when it comes to changing multiple babies' diapers.)

Concerning the donkey described above it (lines 13-15), when Alvis Owens was a small boy, he announced to his family that is name was "Buck", naming himself after the family's donkey.

His first release:

Forget what you knew
We'll start life anew
Down on the Corner of Love

What of Navy sailors with tattoos?

Join the Navi, see the world...

Deuteronomy 34 - Genesis 1

10 And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face,
11 In all the signs and the wonders, which the LORD sent him to do in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh, and to all his servants, and to all his land,
12 And in all that mighty hand, and in all the great terror which Moses shewed in the sight of all Israel.
1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth:
2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep; And a wind from God moved upon the face of the waters:
3. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light:

Permanent marks? Get coloring! 😜

Dang. I sure try not to be judgemental about these things, and before I cement anything at all in my mind, if I have the opportunity to meet and converse, I do, and base my judgement on that.

My main issue is an asthetic one, and I suppose it has some link to the biblical one. (I know it is a shallower viewpoint, but I am flawed in many respects, and shallowness is occasionally one of them.)

I think the human body is an absolutely beautiful thing. I am a man, so I view tattoos on women as, er, less than optimal. Guys, not so much, since I have always felt we are more prone to being filthy and scarred, if that is the right way to put it.

As I get closer to God, I expect my sentiment will become more biblical and less aesthetic...:)

And I’m good with that.

I was on the beach at the Jersey shore a couple years ago and speculated that I could make a fortune in about 10 years opening a tattoo removal parlor. Looks like I was off by about 8 years.

Yup. Or as we used to say back in the day, "Look at you people all non-conforming together."

There’s an unfortunate and bizarre ‘overkill’ going on with all the ink.

I suspect it is related to a natural human need for meaning and connection that continually eludes the seekers.

Stamp, stamp, stamp — kind of like plastic surgery addictions. One is never enough, on and on.

The culture is one of moving goalposts, from the socially acceptable rebellious zones to the yikes zones, but few catch on to the manipulation and its destructive nature. If they do, it might be long after the permanent damage is done.

“Normalized” destruction. It’s everywhere.

Get a confederate flag tattoo and we can get a twofer thread of hate going. Lol

I have 3 tats I got at 37 years of age. Lol. Ok little blue dots of ink to align me into the radiation oncologists machine. Never got the Rads but got the dots. It’s not anymore against the New Testament to get a tat than it is to be obese. Just my opinion.

I thought about a tat with my date of birth on my stomach.

After the 5-6 time the nurse(s) asked me for my birthdate We all had a good laugh when I merely raised my gown when I was in the rad machine.

I merely used a magic marker.

I had never had a problem with someone getting a tattoo up until around 30 years ago, and after that, it just seemed to explode. I thought a tattoo on the deltoid or the forearm was no big deal (because I grew up in a Navy family, and saw a LOT of men with tattoos)

But this thing where people uniformly cover their entire arms, legs, necks, backs, whatever with tattoos...well, it kind of repels me. But I keep in mind that the appearance does not always reflect the actual person, though the decision to cover themselves

LINK: Blue Collar Logic-The Case Against Tattoos

I think this man in the video frames the issue brilliantly, and is done from a practical, non-religious viewpoint. (I note that he does say "If you are one of those adults with a single tattoo on your arm (or something like that) this video is not for you.")

When I obtained the link, I saw the very first comment was: "...As a 50 year old veteran without one tattoo, I tell folks that tattoos are so over done these days, that the counterculture are now folks that are tattoo free..."

I kind of feel that, as both a conservative, and an un-tattooed person!

Some people might enjoy this comedian who talks about how much he regrets getting his neck and facial tattoos:

That is an excellent video.

It’s brilliant *because* it’s a big dose of practical, real world logic. He provides simple, down-to-earth analogies.

Jesus’ parables were lost on the religious who were “above” this world, disconnected from the reality on the ground. Big mysteries: the daily, ‘blue collar’ realm of fishermen, farmers, families planning weddings, the little guy stuck in a rut and can’t get up, folks not wanting to run afoul of the taxman or the religious wrongthink-sniffers...

The adversary is the accuser who never *allows* people to let go of past failures. It’s an emancipating power to move beyond the stupid and say farewell.

This guy provides a wonderful service — truly offering freeing, good news.

I have never understood the tattoo thing. Right or wrong, I relegate people with tattoos has having misplaced priorities. Regardless of who they are, they should have better things to do with their time and money.

Pretty much in the same boat. Painting your skin seems like a weird priority. Maybe they should just buy different colored shirts or something.
