If I recall defrauding someone of their just wages is a sin that cries out to heaven for vengeance

How do they know which companies are doing this?

Sounds like an argument to end private-sector employment entirely. Only government can be trusted to keep paying unnecessary low-skill workers during tough economic times. /s

The article is unadulterated collectivist drivel. Gen Z’ers and their college political officers will love it.

I worked for a family business who used to round time clock times in their favor. Year and a half after I quit, I got a check in the mail from them for $1,100.00

Someone reported them and that 15 minutes here, 15 minutes there really added up. They paid out $14k total and had less than 10 hourly employees.

One of the reasons I quit is because they bought a $90k crane truck and then remodeled the offices while in the shop, whenever it rained, which is almost everyday in Ctrl FL summers, we had to get all the extension cords off the floor and drape them across things because the place flooded so bad.

One of the sons was the crane operator.

It was really a two class workplace.

So, the point of this article is that sometimes bad people do bad things?

Sorry, but why did you have to go back to 2005 to start the totals? I think it was to make a non-problem look like a problem. Was the Mexican worker an illegal? If so, that probably explains why she did the work without complaint. To me, if you’re unhappy with what/how you’re being paid, quit. I think the reason they don’t quit is because they don’t have any options. And whose fault is that? Such people need to invest in themselves by learning a skill or trade. Perhaps the most under-ultilized vocational education institution in the US is the military. Also, a lot of jobs are not required to pay the Federal minimum wage; only the state minimum applies. If you can’t earn enough to support your family, whose fault is that? Two options come to mind: 1) invest in yourself so you can command a higher wage in the market, or 2) don’t start a family until you can afford one. I have a hard time feeling sympathetic for people who don’t assume responsibility for their own circumstances.

The only reason employers can get away with this is because their employees have outstanding warrants, or they are illegal immigrants.

Everyone else would quit and go straight to Social Services for Food Stamps and unemployment benefits.

Also, the IRS pays a bounty to former employees who rat out corrupt bosses.

Also, employees can file class action lawsuits plus damages to recover lost wages.

No doubt, some workers get ripped off.

But, it is very easy to get legal assistance to fight back.

“These establishments often pay less than the minimum wage, require workers to work off the clock, or fail to pay overtime rates. In the most heinous situations, employers fail to pay their workers at all. “

and most all exploited by their own people... it it were white owned establishments, one call to the democrats and the owners would all be arrested before the sun went down for the nightly news propaganda

...department cited about 8,500 contractors for stealing about $287 million from employees.

Or about 0.00000178482587 percent of the total wage bill (i.e., divide the loss by the total wages paid for that year).

Keep having this recurring dream about forgetting to punch my time card when I got to work. At the end of the dream I figure I lost thousands in wages by forgetting to do so over the years.

That job ended almost 30 years(and many brain cells) ago, btw.

That’s why it is foolish to show total loyalty to your employer.
Don’t get married to the company you work for. Always be on the lookout for better opportunities elsewhere.

Minimum wage isn’t what has to be paid: Minimum outlaws jobs below a specific wage.

I give this the all the credibility of a DNC press release.

People like Danielle Wynne, a $10-an-hour grocery store worker in Florida who claims her employer forced her to work off the clock

I find it very hard to believe that still happens these days. I've been in management for many years and that has always been one of the cardinal sins for a manager to avoid. Not only will it get a manager immediately terminated but the company will be exposed to a lawsuit that it will almost always lose.

In fact, it's gone so far the other direction that we setup our email servers not to send email to hourly employees who are off the clock and we also tell the employees that if they work extra time without putting it on their sheet, that is a serious offense that could result in their termination.

Yes, you read that right. We could actually fire an employee for NOT reporting overtime and getting paid for it. Not that we'd want to do that but that's how seriously we take this.
