If I recall defrauding someone of their just wages is a sin that cries out to heaven for vengeance
Center for Public Integrity = communists, yes?
How do they know which companies are doing this?
A few highly public smack downs of these companies is all you need. Just think what happens when anyone of note says something that offends the woke.
I think employers and employees should be able to agree on a wage without a government minimum wage. This biased article also doesn’t mention the many people who can’t work because the minimum wage is too high.
$7.25 an hour is too high?
It’s more than double that in some cities and/or states.
The article is unadulterated collectivist drivel. Gen Z’ers and their college political officers will love it.
Yes...think about a sixteen year old living rurally who can’t work because of the minimum wage.
I worked for a family business who used to round time clock times in their favor. Year and a half after I quit, I got a check in the mail from them for $1,100.00
Someone reported them and that 15 minutes here, 15 minutes there really added up. They paid out $14k total and had less than 10 hourly employees.
One of the reasons I quit is because they bought a $90k crane truck and then remodeled the offices while in the shop, whenever it rained, which is almost everyday in Ctrl FL summers, we had to get all the extension cords off the floor and drape them across things because the place flooded so bad.
One of the sons was the crane operator.
It was really a two class workplace.
quit.
problem solved.
You really think that only teens earn minimum wage?
And it's $7.25 for about half the states.
So, the point of this article is that sometimes bad people do bad things?
Sorry, but why did you have to go back to 2005 to start the totals? I think it was to make a non-problem look like a problem. Was the Mexican worker an illegal? If so, that probably explains why she did the work without complaint. To me, if you’re unhappy with what/how you’re being paid, quit. I think the reason they don’t quit is because they don’t have any options. And whose fault is that? Such people need to invest in themselves by learning a skill or trade. Perhaps the most under-ultilized vocational education institution in the US is the military. Also, a lot of jobs are not required to pay the Federal minimum wage; only the state minimum applies. If you can’t earn enough to support your family, whose fault is that? Two options come to mind: 1) invest in yourself so you can command a higher wage in the market, or 2) don’t start a family until you can afford one. I have a hard time feeling sympathetic for people who don’t assume responsibility for their own circumstances.
Minimum wages are designed to prevent competition by people who are willing to work for less. If you want to hire someone for $5 an hour and that person agrees then it’s not the place of government to tell you not to do this.
That doesn’t excuse not paying your employees.
No...it’s just that I want people who want to work to be able to find work. I don’t know what your goal is.
