A Florida elementary school principal is under investigation for whacking a 6-year-old girl with a paddle in a shocking incident that was captured on video by the student’s mom, according to a local report.
Melissa Carter, head of Central Elementary School in Clewiston, was filmed bending the child over and hitting her several times with the wooden paddle, local outlet WINK-TV reported.
“The hatred with which she hit my daughter, I mean it was a hatred that, really I’ve never hit my daughter like she hit her,” the girl’s mom told the TV station in Spanish. “I had never hit her.”
The mom, who wasn’t named in the report, said she was called by the school on April 13 because her daughter had apparently caused about $50 worth of damage to a computer. She went to the school to pay the fee — but was sent to the principal’s office, where she found her child with Carter and a school clerk.
Then “the principal started to scream,” the tearful mom said.
The parent looked around and got nervous after noticing a lack of surveillance cameras.
So she hid her phone in her purse and decided to record the brutal punishment — fearing that authorities wouldn’t believe her otherwise. “Nobody would have believed me,” the mom told the outlet. “I sacrificed my daughter, so all parents can realize what’s happening in this school.”
She took her daughter to a doctor later that day to document the red marks and bruises caused by the paddle, the report said. “I’m going to get justice for my daughter because if I could not do it in front of her, I’m going to do it with justice,” the woman said.

I remember teachers paddling trouble makers in school.
Nowadays some men pay plenty to get paddled by middle aged women. What used to be free.
Our Junior High shop class had an annual contest to make the paddle that the Principal would use that year
“Nobody is hitting my kid.”
In hind sight, so to speak, it would have been better if the mother had administered the paddling.
Or, just go to the likely source of the problem and paddle the mother.
It is still legal in Florida. Although not required by law I’ve never known of a school that did not fully outline its discipline procedures to parents as well as getting their consent. Obviously this woman consented just to prove a point. I don’t believe in paddling in schools but even more I don’t believe in hurting children for the greater good.
I had one like that too. He had about 20 chalk erasors, all well used lined up on the chalk tray that he wasn’t afraid to use if needed. I swear that guy had eyes in the back of his head! He’d be in the middle of writing on the chalk board when suddenly he’d spin around and fling that eraser like lightning and that thing, full of yellow chalk hit its intended target every, single time!
It was always a boy, never a girl and the man was right every time.
Everybody respected him. He was no fool.
“Obviously the mother gave the principal permission. Now she’ll deny it and sue the school.”
And pay the principal her share.
First of all your Freeper page says you are a home schooling momma emeritus and grandma. So no one was ever going to hit one of your kids anyway! Secondly, the schools got God out of the buildings in the 60’s and had no support from parents when kids did go bad thus the loss of corporal punishment due to law suits and permissive policies. So for many students there was no early correction of bad behaviors before they got worse in these students over time. The southern schools held on for years but finally most have dropped the practice. If the little brat did such damage then I’m glad she got swatted...well no one says the kid actually died(oh really...a few little red marks...pay the family a million dollars/sarcasm) and it is a matter of personal perception as to whether or not the principal actually had real hatred for the little girl...plus the mom just stood there and let it happen. If the mom was negative against spanking she should have told the the principal to hold her fire and let her, the mom, do the punishing.
“They also had large screws in the side for added weight.”
Mine had screws on the front, and scorpions would crawl out of the handle when activated.
Interesting kick back scheme theory....sadly humans are so wicked, I could believe it could really happen.
Exactly, how would the principle and other school worker do this right in front of the mother this closely? Did the mother just sit there and say nothing to stop it? Did the 2 in pink even know this woman was the mother? Seems strange.
How did it get on video back then assuming you were in 12th grade before you signed up here on FR in 2001?
Luckily, my dad hardly asked and I never told but the spanks at school I got were generally deserved. I can never say I had any abusive teachers....a few swats...stung for a while but my lessons were learned.
On his first day in a catholic high school, a friend of mine told me that a teacher stood up in the lunchroom and asked who the strongest student in the freshman class was.
Some knuckle dragger swaggered up to the stage where the teacher promptly cold cocked him in the head and knocked him unconscious.
He said ‘don’t screw around in my school” and walked away.

Interesting to see how many small government conservatives want to have the government, via teachers unions, spanking kids.
I’ll take “Things that never happened” for a thousand, Alex.
We were videotaping the students speaking German. The teacher took a desk behind me in the corner of the room.
The kid who caught the book was stalking.
The teacher asked for my textbook and said “watch this” then let it fly.
Guess again my friend. See 77
It’s not a guess.
And, you don’t even know which BS story you are defending.
One more thing. Private school
