Olympia Dukakis, Hollywood’s favorite late bloomer who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in “Moonstruck” — has died at the age of 89.
Dukakis, a cousin of former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis, died Saturday at her home in New York City. Her brother, Apollo Dukakis, wrote on Facebook, “After many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her [husband] Louis.”
In addition to her scene-stealing turn as Cher’s sardonic Brooklyn mom in 1987’s “Moonstruck,” Dukakis was known for her roles in “Steel Magnolias,” “Look Who’s Talking” and “Mr. Holland’s Opus” among many other films.

Old commie
good actress though
May she rest in peace. I loved her in Steel Magnolias.
Gee....a Connie dies.
Good acting is required to be a democrat. They really can’t believe the crap they say.... can they? /S
Was just talking about Moonstruck this morning. The part where the mother in Italy is ‘dying’ and the sad music is playing, everyone around her bed crying, so funny. She ain’t dyin’!
But I remember reading Dukakis saying that movie changed her life. She suddenly was famous and very rich.
Left or right the movie was very good. Lot of heart in it. I prefer to remember it that way.
Snap out of it.
I did, too. Except for the horrendous attempt at a Southern accent.
Before Moonstruck she and her husband ran a theatre in Montclair, NJ. I remember seeing her in Waiting for Godot.
No sarcasm tag required. This is truth, they know it is truth. They are paid to lie, so they lie.
Some lie to not rock the boat or they don't look too deeply into an issue, because "they have people for that" but some just aren't smart enough to see how the world really works
You must weaken your stronger enemy before you can defeat them and using Human emotions are the easiest way to do this.
I am confident by 2025, someone will convince 1/2 the country the US constitution should be thrown out using Tik Tok Kitten videos.
Moonstruck was released in December 1987, when Michael Dukakis was the frontrunner in the Presidential race against George H. W. Bush, in the closing year of the President Reagan's second term.
She was used briefly in Look Who’s Talking. She was the grandmother.
Johnny Crawford (The Rifleman) died yesterday.

Oh my gosh
I have been watching The Rifleman recently.
And Johnny Crawford’s interviews.
If you get a chance watch the show. Everyone leaves you a bit better than you were before.
Chuck Connors story is inspiring, and Johnny Crawford was wonderful.
Yes don’t get me wrong. I never liked the Bush’s. I was on to the before everyone else. I wrote them about the illegals coming in and need to stop that and they certainly did not. Those bastards.
Yes. All the performances were great. Turned out, that was the highpoint in both Cher's and Dukakis' careers.
Don’t know why I remember little things-—it’s actually a curse.
At some awards ceremony the year Michael Dukakis was running, she won something and defiantly said “And now you go out and win as President, Michael” to cheers and applause.
A true Karen, without a slur name then, but I hated her and never forgot that and said to myself, dear God don’t let him win.
Thanks be to God he lost.
She was actually in the first Vigilante movie with Charles Bronson. Not credited. She was the police woman in uniform sitting down when the blowhard police investigator calls a general meeting to work out how to catch the vigilante.
She was a very talented actress.
