A New Jersey high school teacher has been suspended with pay after profanity-laced comments to students in his class about George Floyd, the man killed by a Minneapolis police officer.
A recording aired by WNBC-TV shows Dickinson High School (Jersey City) science teacher Howard Zlotkin talking about Floyd and Black Lives Matter during what was supposed to be a climate change discussion in a landscape and design Zoom class.
Zlotkin, who is white, is heard to say people are “whining and crying about Black Lives Matter,” and he then refers to Floyd with a profanity as a “criminal” who “got arrested and he got killed because he wouldn’t comply.” Another profanity is heard as he continues that Floyd is being treated as a “hero.”
The video and one taken the next day also included a profanity directed at a student and a vulgar gesture, WNBC reported. The student said Zlotkin grew irate when she and three other students challenged his position, and the four were told to write an essay on “why Black lives should matter” — an assignment not given to other students.
Superintendent Franklin Walker told NJ.com that the language used was “unacceptable.” He said the district is investigating the situation and that police have also been notified “because some of it could be at the same level as a hate crime.” …

Wrong. White man suspended for criticizing black man. The article makes sure to mention that he is White, using a lower case letter W to show its disdain for Whites.
Note that the police are now called for WORDS that contain no violent threats. The police arrive with guns, sticks, pepper spray, handcuffs, and can kill you if you resist.
Is this the country our founders had in mind?
“NaziCommies” are in the saddle now...
Why would police be involved? Isn’t this a situation for the social workers?
Wow!! An intelligent point counterpoint discussion and neither one of you called the other guy an a**hole!
Is that allowed here?
Unless of course you’re Ma’Khiller Bryant or Daunte Wrong; they die and the police are the villains.
The police arrive with guns, sticks, pepper spray, handcuffs, and can kill you if you resist. …
I prefer "died of a drug overdose while in police custody."

Floyd’s family recently transferred the “gentle giant” sobriquet onto him.
Do you think the same results would occur if it was a black teacher referring to a white man?
Change “Floye” to “Chauvin” and she gets a fat promotion.
I was trying to think of a substitute but I was too lazy- thank you
I wonder if those students know that George Floyd’s family is receiving $27mm from is unfortunate death.
(a “criminal” who “got arrested and he got killed because he wouldn’t comply.”)
Wish folks would get their facts straight. Truth is important. George floyd didn’t get killed by a yone other than George floyd. He killed himself. The f a CT that he died while in custody has nothing to do with the fact that George died fro. A drug overdose. George floyd did not die because a cop held him down. Floyd was dying even before the cops showed up
Funny how police are never notified if teachers rant about jews or Christians
Well, honestly, he should not be broaching the subject. Only if pushed into it by BLM-loving “students”.
And he certainly should not be cussing up a storm, or directed at students (unless they truly deserve it).
Professionalism, people.
This is how BLM and everyone who enables them behave all the time - completely unprofessional (I know, via my stupid college pres and local school super). And many are getting sick of it (see the Basecamp company diatribe). But still handle it better.
You’re right. And it’s because “cussing”/profanity/etc is “FIGHTIN’ WORDS”. It’s basically threatening.
Well it’s actually east coast.
But he cussed and made “disagreeing” kids write a report and just the fact he went off on it at all is out of line.
Totally unprofessional. It’s a science class.
Give me a break. Sounds like this teacher lost it - who can blame him? - but he should have made his case in a more tempered logical way. He's been suspended but I'm sure a few mea culpas and he can come back. I thought it was impossible for a public school teacher to get fired? Of course being non-PC like this may obviate that...
