The number of deaths related to Covid-19 has passed 400,000 in Brazil, the second-highest in the world, as the country continues to struggle with its vaccination programme. There were 3,001 deaths in 24 hours, after a peak of more than 4,000 was reached at the start of April.
The 14-day average of deaths and cases remains high but has seen a slight fall. Congress has opened an inquiry into the government's handling of the pandemic.
President Jair Bolsonaro, who has frequently spoken out against lockdowns, masks and defended unproved drugs as treatment, is facing widespread criticism and his support has plummeted. The outbreak has been fuelled by more transmissible variants of the virus and a lack of co-ordinated national measures. The situation has improved in many areas, including where the health system was on the brink of collapse, after states and cities imposed restrictions, but they are already being eased.
The rate of occupancy of intensive care unit beds remains at or above 90% in more than a third of the states, according to the health institute Fiocruz, which said the scenario remained "critical". "[There's] a tendency of a slight fall but not yet of containment of the epidemic," the institute said in a report (in Portuguese), warning that the daily number of deaths is likely to remain high. Brazil recorded 100,000 deaths in just 37 days, between March and April, which were the worst months in the country. Only the US has a higher death toll.
Since the start of the pandemic, Brazil has had more than 14.5 million cases. Meanwhile, some cities have had to temporarily halt their vaccination programmes amid a shortage of doses. About 13% of the population of 212 million has received at least one dose, according to the Our World in Data tracker.

If the numbers are to be believed (which I’m incredibly skeptical of with no flu deaths at all this year) then we have lost a total of 5 of those stadiums so far.
I would like to know how many people in China actually died from this. Probably that good deal more than what the Beeb would be allowed to tell us. If the Chernobyl disaster would have happened nowadays, I can see the BBC and other INGSOC media outlets basically ignoring it until well afterwards.

That’s a good question. I recall an article where there were lots of cellphones in China that suddenly went ‘dead.’ They tried to pass it off as a software routing change or something or other.

So when major cellphone carriers in China reported a loss in nearly 21 million subscriptions in January and February, some skeptics theorized that the number of phone numbers that disappeared from the original hotspot of the disease may correlate to the real number of lives lost to the novel coronavirus.
According to data published by the mobile carriers, China Mobile Ltd. saw a drop of nearly 7.25 million subscribers and China Unicom Hong Kong Ltd. lost 7.8 million subscribers in January and February, while China Telecom Corp. lost 5.6 million subscribers in February alone, the Associated Press reported.
China affairs expert Tang Jinyuan explained that having a cellphone and a cell subscription is married to daily life in China. “Dealing with the government for pensions and social security, buying train tickets, shopping … no matter what people want to do, they are required to use cellphones,” she said in an interview with the Epoch Times.

occam’s razor. The CCP targeted those countries with it’s most contagious form of the bio weapon they cooked up. They also had basically from the start a 50% effectiveness dead virus inoculation that they used on their own people and troops.
