We've seen plenty of classic car restoration jobs in our time, but the salvage project facing the winning bidder of this particular auction item is undoubtedly a daunting prospect. However, buying it could be a very lucrative decision in the long run, according to experts.
This rare 1960 Jaguar XK150 S 3.8 Drophead Coupe has seen better days - in fact, it currently looks less like a Drophead and more like dropped-on-its-head.
Having been crashed by the owner in 1996 and stored in a garage ever since, it is set to be sold at auction for an estimated guide price of - wait for it - £10,000 to £15,000.
While that might seem steep for a motor in such a catastrophic state of disrepair, the selling auctioneer says it 'looks worse than it is' and the financial return of restoring it to its former glory could be extremely profitable indeed, claiming it could be worth up to £250,000!
The smashed-up Jag is being offered to potential buyers at the upcoming Bonhams MPH Auction on 22 May, which will be a live 'drive through' sale with each lot driven in front of bidders so they can hear each one being started up and running, rather than just on static display.

“What? It’s a motorcar? So that’s what it is. I’ll give you 30 bob.”
Relax, my old man is a tv repair man and he has the ultimate set of tools

I live in South Carolina. I’ve seen worse pulling out of the church parking lot.
And Americans on British and other left hand roads (‘limey southpaw’ Ian Fleming’s Felix Leiter) is just, if not more, dangerous. Consider the fate of Gene Schumacher of Schumacher-Levi Nine fame, driving in the Australian outback, looking for meteor craters, hit a truck while he was driving on the ‘wrong’ side’ of the road. He died. His wife seriously injured.
...And it will only cost THREE QUARTERS OF A MILLION to restore...
Been looking at that photo and wondering what happened. It’s a low car...and the main impact area seems to be below the headlights but just above the frame...about guardrail height with maybe post impact on the drivers side fender. The damage to the right rear panel may not have happened at the same time...but only accident site views would tell the real story. Strange things do happen.
Former XK-150 roadster owner.
yeah, you’re right, without seeing the rest of the accident scene there’s no telling what happened...
Looks like it could have been a pedestrian accident involving Michael Moore.
Beautiful car
or stacey abrams...
The second picture with the steering wheel crushed forward and the extended steering column, plus no seat belt...just ouch.
could be what she looks like on all fours...
A couple more pictures from the earlier post. It looks grim. A lot of rust. I wonder how rusty the frame. Wouldn’t surprise me if if the brake line rusted through causing the accident.
Be interesting to see if they restore or part out. I suspect many worse cars were parted out.
And which side the steering wheel was on had nothing to do with that crash. He was killed by an idiot named Turnipseed turning left in front of him.
They used to make great Coupes in the old days. Now many companies are out of business. From the underpowered MGB to the easily rolled TR6. I thought the spitfire had nice lines. BMW and Mercedes, they had classics.
Didn't know.
I'd always thought he was drunk.
Short happy life.
I was never big into foreign cars, although there are some that I really like, mostly the Italian sport cars.
