So perhaps they need to offer more money.
Idiot statement of the week.
How are these great small businesses supposed to compete with the govt handing out free TAXPAYER money? Clearly you have never owned a small business and know the true cost of an hourly wage.
Wrong. Small business have a right to cheap labor and to be able to set labor rates. /sarcasm
Liberal much?
I guess you’ve never run a business...
It seems odd to me that conservatives seem to have lost sight of standard economics. Unfortunately economics have been completely biased by government actions, but the law of supply and demand still exists. But to hear folks here giving you crap, while it is also common for folks here to bash someone like Paul Ryan (a “chamber of commerce” republican) seems jarring.
If you can make $18/hr sitting at home doing nothing, how does raising the pay from $12 pre-pandemic to $14 today induce you to get off the couch and work? At $20/hr, those jobs don’t exist. This is a huge, massive problem as the amount you get from not working is basically right at the median salary in the US of around $40k/year - basically half the country can make the same or more not working and another large chunk is close enough it may make them think twice. Why work for $45k/year if I can make almost the same thing not working.
Unlike the government, businesses can’t print money or raise taxes.
OR. The government needs to stop paying them to not work.
“So perhaps they need to offer more money.”
Perhaps the government needs to stop paying people to not work. Unemployment benefits are supposed to be temporary. Why are unemployment benefits being paid when there are “help wanted” signs everywhere?
We went to a well known oyster house last weekend, manager said sorry, but no help,, offers $600 sign on bonus,, dishwasher makes $14 an hour,, don’t think pay is the issue here. Local quick stop gas station store offers $360 bonus
PER PAY PERIOD!
Perhaps government shouldn’t pay people so much not to work. The economy has been destroyed thanks to money printing stimulus and shut downs.
