Autry Hogan saved his allowance to buy a new fishing rod and last Saturday the 7-year-old Tennessean broke in his new equipment by landing an 83-pound flathead catfish.

According to Clarksville Now, Autry was fishing on the Cumberland River with his father, grandfather, and younger brother, when he hooked a catfish that was about as long (47 inches) as he is tall

The fish was released but based on a photo supplied by the family, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirmed the species as a flathead catfish.

a country boy can survive

Also when he’s a tad older and bigger he can noodle him up a catfish.

Terrible method to hold a fish one intends to release. Catfish are tough, but a hand in the gills is never good. Especially after the exertion from being fought and landed.

“they shoulda fried him up”

The big ones are never that good of eating. 10lbs. and up are for the trophy photos - 2-3 lbs are for the frying pan.

...PeTA issues a statement decrying the “monstrous cruelty” of fishing, and tries to brutally shame this seven-year-old in 5... 4... 3... 2...

Boy’s head would fit in the mouth of that fish.
He will remember it for the rest of his life.
I was younger than him when I caught a baby octopus while fishing with my dad. He cut it up for bait. I was livid at the time, but I remember it fondly 55 years later.

I will tell you first hand that is horse hockey. The big ones eat just as good as the little ones, it is all in how you clean them.
