You’re going to love this one! While mowing, having passed by the same (abandoned) pick-up truck by the barn, oh, 537 times so far, I managed to clip the edge of the downed tailgate and plinked off the knob that allows me to turn the mower blades on and off!

I couldn’t have done that on a DARE!

So, luckily, it’s stuck in the position where the blades are off, so the machine will start - in case Beau can’t fix it and it needs to be driven onto the trailer and taken in for repair. Luckily, I DID get 99% of the mowing done,

I’ve been kicking myself all day and night for that boneheaded move! Grrrr!

As an added bonus, Beau and his F350 broke down when he was coming back from mowing a pasture for a neighbor, so I had to go pick him up, then we came home, got another vehicle that was going in for some welding, drive there, drive back (NOTHING is close by where we live) so that ate up 3 more hours of my life, yesterday.

It was not a, ‘Dear Diary: Today was a GREAT day!’ kind of day! Nothing I hate more than mechanical failures; self-induced or otherwise! :(

Had to check it out, of course! Blackberry Cheesecake Crazytunia:

The interesting thing about these 'swirled' varieties of flowers is that it's caused by a virus that you normally DON'T want, when you're breeding things.

Aargh! At least you have multiple backup vehicles around the place to drive into Madison or Monroe to find a knob! (Sounds like it would be good to get the abandoned pick running too, or put the tailgate up and turn the bed into a big flower planter!)

At least its not February and you will not need to drive on unplowed roads covered with ice and snow until late September or so! ( Maybe.... :)

I bought the mower locally, so getting a part hopefully won’t be a problem.

I bought the mower in 2018 and so far it had some factory recall on it so s he had to go into the shop, I’ve had flat tires, got it stuck under the deck when I mowed while it was too wet (Beau was Up North so my neighbor pulled me out with his 4x) so she and I already have QUITE the history!

I DO like getting the house yard mowed in 2 hours versus 4 or more - or a whole week when I was using a push mower with power assist!

Celebrity tomatoes.
Various hot and bell peppers.

We’ve been growing, drying and grinding paprika peppers and now have a lifetime supply of orange spice.

Jeff Foxworthy said once that He and Larry the Cable Guy were talking and they decided their big goal in life was to have enough money at some point to be able to hire someone else to mow their lawns. (I suspect they have reached that point!)

You should be good for a few years!

70-75 day hybrid with disease resistance and large fruit!

Sounds good!

“root-knot nematode resistance sets it apart from most tomato varieties.”

https://agrilifetoday.tamu.edu/2021/03/25/celebrity-tomato-latest-texas-superstar/

SNIP....

“The Celebrity tomato was first hybridized and produced in the U.S. by Colen Wyatt. The seeds were commercially distributed in the late 1980s by Petoseed Co. and today by Seminis Vegetable Seeds.

In 1984, the plant was judged by various horticulture experts and recognized with an All-America Selections award due to its favorable characteristics compared to other tomato cultivars.

Stein said Celebrity’s root-knot nematode resistance sets it apart from most tomato varieties.

“For gardeners who plant tomatoes in the same spot year after year, they have to have root-knot nematode resistance,” he said. “That and its yield, fruit size and quality make Celebrity a must for gardeners.””
Snip...

“Plants are perennial but grow as an annual in Texas due to the cold. They are determinant, or grow as a bush, but will easily reach 4-6 feet tall.” ...

A 1980-something GMC. I’m back on the warpath to get more JUNK out of here.

He was very good about cleaning the place up six years ago because I said I was NOT moving to a junkyard - but the creep of ‘farmer junk’ is back, but the fact that he retired from The Trades and isn’t dragging stuff home from job sites has helped. He came home with the hatch door from a submarine one time! Oy!

If he dies before me, I’ll have a HUGE mess on my hands - but I’ll just call up all the OTHER farmers in the area and say, ‘Help Yourselves!’ and the junk will ‘magically disappear’ into THEIR barns, poll sheds and basements and their wives will be mad at me. ;)

When I helped my FIL grow for market and local restaurants, ‘Celebrity’ was the ONLY tomato he would grow. It never cracks, tastes delicious, has great disease resistance and was always a reliable producer no matter what the weather threw at us. And it LOOKS like, ‘The Perfect Tomato.’

You can’t go wrong with that tomato variety, IMHO.

Besides, Primrose, I’m also wondering about shallots, Narcissus willkommii (mini daffodils), painted fern, and Virginia Bluebells. Would love to hear how others have handled these.

Last year we found a small patch of morels growing near a dying tree, probably an elm, but I’m not sure. Will they grow back in the same spot this year? I keep looking but so far haven’t seen anything popping up. We may have had too dry a Spring.

Celebrity, official tomato mascot of the 2021 Gardening Threads! (Hold a vote?)

Nematode and disease resistance are excellent qualities.

This year I planted 2 each of Carbon, Trifle, Pineapple, Stupice. Carbon is new this year. I will plant a couple of 10 fingers of Naples and Pincipe Borghese (determinate Italian w little tomatoes.)

I did ‘Carbon’ a few seasons ago when it was first available; I’m not judging it because I had a terrible growing season that year. I have seed for ‘Ten Fingers’, but it didn’t make the cut this year...I had to stop SOMEWHERE, LOL!

‘Stupice’ and ‘Princepe’ are two other old-timey favorites of mine, too.

If you do get them try to not pull them up by the roots (Hyphae). If you do, cut that part off and try to replant around the tree.

A dying elm or tree produces a lot of sap that does not get transported to the leaves (Because there are fewer because dying.) The sap settles and leaks out of the roots and provides food to the morels who have established an symbiotic relationship with the three.

Oh, a couple of black Krim too so I can compare with the Carbon. I have about 12 packages of tomato seeds in my seed box. Perhaps I’ll try Celebrity next year!
