Texas: The COVID-19 Disaster That Never Happened
PJ Media ^ | 04/22/2021 | Rick Moran

It’s been a month and a half since Texas Governor Gregg Abbott gave the left heart palpitations by eliminating the state’s mask mandate and most other virus restrictions.

So, according to liberals, there must be dead bodies in the streets and jam-packed hospitals full of sick and dying patients in Texas, right?

President Joe Biden said the governor’s decision reflected “Neanderthal thinking.” Gilberto Hinojosa, chairman of the Texas Democratic Party, said it was “extraordinarily dangerous” and “will kill Texans.” The national media ridiculed Abbott and Texas as a bunch of rubes who deserved whatever they got.

Meanwhile, new cases of COVID-19 have dropped substantially and deaths have fallen as well.

Reason:

Yet a month and a half later, newly identified coronavirus cases in Texas have fallen by more than 50 percent, and daily deaths have dropped even more.

Meanwhile, states with stricter COVID-19 regulations have seen spikes in daily new cases. This is not the pattern you would expect to see if government-imposed restrictions played a crucial role in curtailing the pandemic, as advocates of those policies assume.

The key, according to Jacob Sullum, is that Texas was already partially open when Abbott lifted the mask mandate.

Most businesses in Texas had been allowed to operate at 75 percent of capacity since mid-October, when Abbott also allowed bars to reopen. It was implausible that removing the cap would have much of an impact on virus transmission, even in businesses that were frequently hitting the 75 percent limit.

While Abbott said Texans would no longer be legally required to cover their faces in public, he urged them to keep doing so, and many businesses continued to require masks. At the stores I visit in Dallas, there has been no noticeable change in policy or in customer compliance.

The Left HAS to make sure THE FEAR continues ... Or even the most low-info American is going to begin asking questions.

Most stores in Texas now do not require a mask. Some do but it is really just covering their ass legally. I will carry a mask in my pocket and if challenged and put the damn thing on or just leave the store. Oddly I have been in stores with signs that say masks are mandatory. I have went in them and shopped and none challenged me. I did carry that stupid mask in my pocket if needed. I never needed it.

ps
I am a medical professional. If one looks at the masks and viral size it is about like throwing sand at a chain link fence. It means nothing unless coughing which the mask may stop some larger particles. Oddly those particle are large and will not remain airborne for long. Several studies have confirmed this.

My take on this is that masks have nearly zero impact on the spread of COVID and in any case it’s a carefully designed virus that can be used as cause of death in many cases that were already approaching terminal stage in other conditions. Hence a more mobile population would not see any difference in outcomes. There is a COVID virus and it is dangerous to some people. It’s up to each group at risk to figure out ways of limiting their own exposure to it, and it’s difficult for governments to make rules that will work equally well for each at-risk group. The rules they do make up are mainly to make it seem like there is a response, not really very carefully designed to create an impact on infection and mortality rates.

For about 90% of us, the risk factors are low because infection will only lead to a mild or moderate bout with a flu-like set of conditions. For the other 10% this is something to be avoided but then so are some of the things that lead to higher risk like obesity or diabetes, those are not necessarily imposed conditions that no person can avoid or mitigate.

Thanks to COVID I am now about 20% zinc and able to walk unscathed through flames etc. So I should be fine in the end times.

EXACTLY SO. = Here in The Alamo City, we have a LEFTIST city/county government & a voter base that is majority (& about 65% “majority minority”) “YELLOW DOG DIMocRAT” but even here the average person is LAUGHING AT & increasingly IGNORING the “wise pronouncements” of the COVID-19 FEAR-MONGERS.

Fwiw, a “Yellow Dog DIMocRAT”, is a person who automatically votes for anyone with a “D” after their name on the General Election ballot, no matter who the candidate is.

“There is a COVID virus...”

Are you sure? Some scientists say the work hasn’t been done.
