Btw, I now read the suspect died nearly a week later. I will admit, I am surprised. He dropped quickly, like a dead man.
Almost like Running Man
But I understand that it's the norm here to comment on a video without actually watching it; I'm learning to lower my expectations.
I’m surprised he lasted that long myself, actually.
And what would happen if the cop had simply waited for backup, and the suspect decided to quickly carjack some lady, put a knife to her throat and kidnapped her? And all this would be on video, with the cop standing there waiting for, "Backup".
Sounds like Charlie is gonna get his wish (a bit late).
Funny you mention that. I did watch the video prior to commenting, but had turned to audio down real low for some reason. I’ll never make that mistake again. ☺
Pulling a weapon on a cop is never a smart idea.
I seem to remember a school shooting in FL a while back at some high school where the cops answering the 9-1-1 call waited for backup and folk like you wanted them to jump in and shoot the shooter. That one gave us the /s famous /s david hogg.
So do you really want the cops to wait as the perp kills and kills and kills and kills and kills?
Correct, the cop approached too close to the suspect, then didn’t back off far enough after seeing the knife. He should have backed off 20 feet. As soon as the suspect made a threatening move, the cop was in an untenable position and had to shoot.
If that’s the best ‘what if’ scenario you can come up with, then yeah, the cop should have taken a few steps back and definitely waited until he had better odds.
and he was still on the road...
I attended one of the 3 letter federal LEO citizen academy’s a few years back. One part of the program was doing “act/react” drills using technology that displayed different scenarios where you had to shoot or not. No matter what you think you will not do the correct thing every time. It’s impossible.
Um, I think ya posted to the wrong person. That’s wasn’t my position. Read 25 again.
Oh no, I could easily come up with probably 2 dozen scenarios. But you basically walk right by the realistic scenario already provided you, and you didn’t even address it. My scenario could easily happen, no?
If you can find an instance of just one carjacking committed by a suspect in the UK as police waited for the right number to arrest him, then you will certainly have proved your point.
Until then, I’m gonna stick with the far more plausible belief that a guy standing in the middle of a road armed only with a knife isn’t going to ‘car-jack’ a passerby simply because a police took a dozen steps backwards.
.
Some believe knives are actually more deadly than guns in close quarters, since a gun has to hit CNS or a major artery or vein to kill, and all you are working with is a pinpoint penetration. A sharp knife slashes and creates wounds more likely to hit major blood pathways, and you can stab, and with a decent sized knife and a twist get a bigger wound channel. The difference is kind of like the difference between an ice pick and a chainsaw.
To say cops should have waited until they had numbers and rushed the guy is like saying a cop should view a daily slash that might kill him as a regular part of his job, just to save some psycho who is maybe going to slash your kid one day at the store because he was in a mood.
It takes nothing is a cop asks you to stop, to stop and talk with him. Good people shouldn’t have to risk death because a savage portion of the population wants the right to be above the laws which constrain us.
I’d give this cop a metal for making the world a better place, and move on. Because practically, that is what he did.
UK? You’re moving the goal posts around. I gave you my scenario for this recent event, right here in the USA, regarding this article.
Instead of evading the question, why not just say, yes, that would be very possible? And that would be the correct answer because it would be very possible in regards to the, “Standby for backup” scenarios, suggested here.
They edited out the actual shooting. If the perp charged at him, justified if he was standing there holding a knife not going to end well for the cop.
Sad those crucial seconds the video is frozen
