Yep - when I saw torpedo exercise I’m wondering if one got “hot”
Shades of the Kursk too

Submarines are not something third word navies should be messing with. They need to leave stuff like that to the big boys.

They were probably praying but no one likely hears Muslim Cult prayers.
Muslims or not, they are sailors at the mercy of the sea. Your sick comment is really uncalled for.

Isn’t the depth of the sea nearby seven miles?

After the first one it really doesn’t matter.

Someone has to help fend off the CCP’s navy. Indonesia would be one of the first nations to fall on the party’s goal of taking mineral rich Australia.

It is at the Marianas Trench near Guam. 35,800 feet.
(you made me look it up.)

From what I’ve read- sub is about 700’ test depth. Water near oil slick about 3X that.

I shudder to think what their last hours were like.
This never ends well.
God, have mercy on them
There was no hours involved. Whatever happened was quick...If the hull imploded, death would be instantaneous...to the point that it's unlikely anyone on board even perceived what happened. A mercifully quick death, if you can see that as a blessing.

The Build may be solid, but the repair/maintenance is all done by corner cutting third worlders.
I’m in aviation. I see it daily. Even front line US military planes have some corner-cutting third-world mfg’d/repaired parts in them. The excuse is we live in a “global economy” and “don’t be xenophobic” keeps everyone silent, but when it comes to technology, all countries are not created equal.
Odds are better than even that someday in the near future, it will become an issue.

It was a Type 209/1300 built in the late 70’s/early 80’s. It was due (overdue according to most Indonesians in the know) for retirement. Unfortunately the Indonesian Navy hasn’t had the best record of maintaining their ships for all the same reasons western navies have maintenance issues plus lack of money and a surplus of corruption (so exactly the same as every western navy, just dialled up to 11).
