Yeah it will be interesting what is found out.
Just horrible. Just reading “The Terrible Hours” was scary. And that was 300+ feet of water when she hit the bottom.
Of course that was long, long ago.

Yes, but one compartment subs. That means if there is a large leakage (for instance due to torpedo tube malfunction) there is less time and possibility to handle that than in multi-compartment subs, where you can close off a water filled compartment.

My guess is a wrench left in the tube during maintenance.
Torpedo might not have exploded the warhead, but the propellant would have created chaos.
