Images of a modified Land Rover designed by the Duke of Edinburgh to carry his coffin
The Duke of Edinburgh began creating his own hearse in collaboration with Land Rover in 2003, the year he turned 82.
The duke, who served in the Royal Navy in World War Two, requested that the original Belize Green bodywork be switched to Dark Bronze Green, a colour used for many military Land Rovers.
The Defender was made at Land Rover's factory in Solihull and the duke oversaw the modifications for several years, making the final adjustments in 2019, the year he turned 98.
The vehicle's original role would have been to transport the duke from Wellington Arch in central London to Windsor, 22 miles away, but the coronavirus..

Although I’m against the concept of monarchy, I admire the dignity and class exemplified by the British royal family, and I have noticed that meghan markle doesn’t fit in: she is narcissistic, self-absorbed, devoid of any dignity and class, addicted to fame, and thinks she can change the world.
She sure bamboozled Harry, and now he’s stuck with someone who is using him to climb to the top.
—”Pic at the link - simple and dignified; good match for the dude.”
YES!
And on another thread two Freepers told of their meeting the Duke, and gave a thumbs up.
Do soldiers ever get completely accustomed to choppers
I mean I know in Vietnam they meant life
But I always was a bit nervy in them
I was raised in a fixed wing family
Man Somalis are
Everywhere now
I know a Somali girl
She hates being Somali
Tells folks who don’t know better she’s Eritrean
She’s ashamed how they behave
Looking at it made me think of the mistake Price Harry made by choosing his devious wife over his family. How the military was once very important to Harry, just like it was to his grandfather. How his grandfather devoted his life to his wife, The Queen, his family, the military, and his country. It is a rotten shame that governments the World over used Covid to ruin send offs and goodbyes.
That thing looks great. I wonder if the interior is as rugged looking as the exterior. If so, I’ll take one.
—”and to spend several months touring North America.”
My wife had relatives from Norway take a very extended tour of the USA when gas was over $4.00.
The rental agent in NY gave them a free upgrade to...I think it was an aircraft carrier, gray with a hood about three yards long.
I said gas is $4 a gallon! They said Yes is CHEAP!!! and explained the cost of gasoline in Norway $$$$$
Father and son, they left their wives and kids at home, spent a year planning to see every ball of string museum and fancy truck stop they could fit in.(not joking)
They were ecstatic about the endless roads and fields of grain. They said, Europe is clogged with ancient narrow roads, and California is much larger than Norway.
They left an expensive camera at a motel, didn’t notice for a few days. They were going to go back for it.
The motel clerk called and ask to have the camera shipped to a destination further down the road, with no lost time.
They loved the land yacht and the open roads.
Hearing of their trip was a peak experience.

Spanners, mate, spanners!
—”Spanners, mate, spanners!”
