The United States Coast Guard confirmed Wednesday that one body has been recovered and the search for at least 12 other crew members continued one day after a 129-foot lift boat capsized amid turbulent waters in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Coast Guard, along with the help of several good Samaritans, helped rescue six people from the dangerous waters of the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday after the Seacor Power capsized about 8 miles south of Port Fourchon, Louisiana. The lift vessel had 19 members on board at the time.

Of the six victims rescued, four were saved by private boaters and other vessels that acted quickly and managed to reach some of the people before the Coast Guard could arrive.

Last Summer, we were going into St. Catherine’s Sound in Georgia when we were overtaken by a collapsing Thunderstorm with 50+mph winds. We’re on a 41 ft sailboat, motoring as we were going into the sound, and, had the sails stowed. Fortunately, the winds were coming straight out the sound, and, all we had to do is keep going straight. It was the longest 15 minutes I’ve had in a long time.

We’re now in the Vero Beach Mooring field, and, that same series of storms came through here with 60 mph winds. We were healing over quite a bit. It’s odd to be looking at the far side of the cabin and realize you are looking UP to see it.

It’s a lift boat, not a cruise ship.

I saw 265 this morning and now 129 and 190... I guess they will get that sorted out. Either way, potentially a lot of crew.

It gets confusing at times. Glad I don’t just read headlines......most of the time. :)
