Sanjoy Ghosh, a Michael Smith Health Research Foundation Scholar and a professor at UBC's Okanagan campus, has recently published research that concludes a high consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) but not monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) can lead to sedentary, in fact, lazy behaviour especially in women .
Ghosh says not that long ago, heart disease was linked to saturated fats -- an idea that has become increasingly controversial in recent years. This thinking instigated the intentional removal of saturated fatty acids from most food supplies in favour of MUFA and PUFA. Essentially all fats in our 'convenience' foods like potato chips, energy bars, crackers or burgers use cooking oils like corn, sunflower and soybean and margarine -- all rich in MUFAs and PUFAs.
For his research, Ghosh collaborated with UBC biologist and data analyst Jason Pither, the first-author of the study, to examine data from 21 countries in Europe. They worked specifically with data relating to pre-teen girls and then, in a second study, the blood glucose levels of adult women. In putting details such as the amount of time each week spent watching TV along with other filters like a country's per capital GDP, urbanization, and even latitude, they came out with a clear connection to the consumption of n-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids and an increase in sedentary behaviour.
In particular, a significant correlation was observed in sedentary behaviour of the 11-year-old girls and PUFA in their diets.
"This data is extremely significant," says Ghosh. "Nobody has made this connection and it's time for an intervention. And if someone is beginning an exercise program without taking a close look at the fats, especially PUFA they are consuming, or changing what they're eating, then it might be doomed to failure."

Honestly, we eat too much Omega-6 fat if we don’t specifically stay away from it.
Look for “high oleic” versions of sunflower, corn, soybean, peanut, and other normally high Omega-6 oils. These are strains that make more monounsaturated fats and fewer Omega-6 unsaturated fats.
Look kids
It’s not about diet
It’s 100% about exercise
Especially in this world ; where there are so many ways for you to entertain yourself , while sitting on your posterior!
Am I right?
This is the MRS gene
I am so sick of seeing fat, sloppy, tattooed pigs waddling around in their face diapers.
(As if they’re concerned about their health.)
The VERY tight pants on an obese woman drives me nuts.
.
I cook with olive oil or use my air fryer, no vegie oil

The two major classes of polyunsaturated fats are omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
You can find omega-3s in pine nuts, walnuts, flax and sunflower seeds — but these give a less active form of the fat than fish do.
Fatty fish, such as salmon, boast the most omega-3s, whereas fish with a lower fat content, such as trout and bass, harbor lower levels.
The omega-3 content of 3 ounces (85 grams) of selected fish is:
Salmon: 1.8 grams
Herring: 1.7 grams
Sardines: 1.2 grams
Mackerel: 1 gram
Trout: 0.8 grams
Bass: 0.7 grams
Shrimp: 0.2 grams
Fish don’t produce omega-3 fatty acids on their own. Instead, they accumulate them by eating algae and small, microscopic organisms called plankton.
Omega-6 Fatty Acids
Plant-based oils are high in omega-6 fatty acids — with the exception of coconut and palm oil, which contain a high percentage of saturated fats and are solid at room temperature.
The oils highest in polyunsaturated fats include:
Safflower oil: 74.6%
Grapeseed oil: 69.9%
Flaxseed oil: 67.9%
Sunflower oil: 65.7%
Poppyseed oil: 62.4%
Soybean oil: 58.9%
These oils are liquid at room temperature because the double bonds allow the fat to bend and fold.
Oil-based condiments like mayonnaise and salad dressings, as well as margarines, are also high in omega-6 polyunsaturated fats.
“It’s 100% about exercise”
Thirty five miles of jogging to burn off one pound of fat.
I’m not sure that’s always true.
I’ve known people who are extremely overweight whose main problem is white starch - their bodies just can’t deal with it. I’ve also known people who eat horrible diets full of refined starches and bad fats who remain rail-thin. Exercise often has little to do with it.
People are different genetically and in terms of hormone response. We can’t prescribe diet outlines that suit everyone.
(But good Olive Oil is probably pretty good for you :-)
better yet, use only avocado oil, 100% avocado mayonnaise, and salad dressings made only with avocado oil ...

....and boys who eat foods cooked with soybean oils or that contain soybean meal turn into “soyboys”
Wrong. Exercise is good but you can heal the body by eating the proper human diet.
It's YOUR choice.
1. Eat less.
2. Eat better. (protein, vegetables, fruit)
3. Move more. (not just to the kitchen and bathroom)
Hello Mears, My dear friend.
We do have the consolation of knowing that whatever we eat from now on, we will never die young.
It is diet.
This like Joe Biden's advice to parents: "make sure you have the record player on at night."
Who watches TV anymore but a few old women getting their drug prescription and woke propaganda?
cooking oils like corn, sunflower and soybean and margarine — all rich in MUFAs and PUFAs.
well....that leaves...bearfat? way to cover 1/2 of American ag, tho. Clever. But transparent.
You can’t out run the fork, but yes much more sedentary than previous generations.
