The Wall Street Journal is a rarity in 21st-century media: a newspaper that makes money. A lot of money. But at a time when the U.S. population is growing more racially diverse, older white men still make up the largest chunk of its readership, with retirees a close second.
...The project ran into trouble once Mr. Murray saw the copy, according to four people with knowledge of the matter. He line-edited stories himself, rare for a top Journal editor. An article about a college campus movement to abolish sororities and fraternities in an effort to combat racism and homophobia was spiked, according to the people. Mr. Murray objected to terms such as “trans-phobia,” which was not in the paper’s style guide, referring to them as “jargon-y woke-isms,” they said. Dow Jones said that Mr. Murray and Ms. Story decided not to publish that article because other outlets had covered the topic.
...Everyone at the meeting said they agreed that The Journal should include more diverse voices. But how? Should they survey subjects about their background? A senior editor expressed concern about such a tack, according to two people who were briefed on the event, saying he was worried the paper might be sued if it came out that its reporters were passing over white people to quote Black people. (The company disputes the characterization of the meeting.)

As a WSJ subscriber since the 1970s, provided by my employer, I find it interesting.
Seeing the revolt of the 280, I spend less time in the front news section.
Now the WSJ is an annual Christmas gift from our children and since my wife retired she tends to go for the print edition first.
The problem with the Wall Street Journal is clearly advertised in its name. It is not called the Main Street Journal for a reason. The people who work for Dow Jones & Company have no idea what fly-over America is about. They are simply shrills for globalist corporations.
Fact #1) The Wall Street Journal actually makes money.
Fact #2) The bulk of the Wall Street Journal subscribers are whites.
Therefore, the Wall Street Journal must be racist because white people are smart enough to read it and make money using it.
Welcome to 21st-Century liberalism.
—”They are simply shrills for globalist corporations.”
I strongly disagree and have to ask if you have read it on a regular basis to form that opinion.
Yes, some of the non-news is fluff$$$ but can be fun.
—”Therefore, the Wall Street Journal must be racist because white people are smart enough to read it and make money using it.”
A fitting synopsis of the article.
Been a subscriber and daily reader of the WSJ for over 30 years. Have to because of the business I am in.
Last 5 years or so, has taken a fairly hard left turn - primarily in how it reports news, occasionally on its Editorial Page and often who it includes in its Op Ed pages.
Very discouraging.
NY Post is last remaining print paper worth reading.

I’m with you, I don’t read the news articles as much as I used to. I pretty much stay for the columnists and editorials, that section of the WSJ is still fairly conservative. Kim Strassel and Jason Reilly are my favorites, Peggy on the weekend needs to resign or retire.
From the article: “The report argued that the paper should attract new readers — specifically, women, people of color and younger professionals — by focusing more on topics such as climate change and income inequality. Among its suggestions: “We also strongly recommend putting muscle behind efforts to feature more women and people of color in all of our stories.”
The WSJ is the only paper (digital) I subscribe too. If the WSJ wants to lose it’s profitability it can go ‘woke’ like the rest of those papers losing money.
Not unlike many many profitable enterprises - unfortunately White men and retirees support a lot of things.
Not only have I read it on a regular basis, but Dow Jones & Company was a client of mine when I had a consulting business in the 90's. I know the type of people who work for them. They are a union shop, in all areas; some of the laziest people I ever worked with. They are colloquial, living in their NY/NJ cocoons without a clue what real Americans are like. They pimp stories from globalist corporations to convince investors to buy and sell, only to profit big banks and brokerage houses. I've seen it action and in person.
With all that said, my experiences working at Dow Jones, Reuters, J.P. Morgan and elsewhere have given me great insight in how Wall Street really works. I use that knowledge daily to profit, beating them at their own game although on very small scale.
Diverse voices indeed just like the UN meetings everyone has to have a translator.
“Mr. Murray hired Louise Story, a journalist whose career included a decade at The New York Times.”
“We also strongly recommend putting muscle behind efforts to feature more women and people of color in all of our stories.”
So, basically, Louise Story recommended turning the Wall Street Journal into the NY Times.
This seems like a great approach to chase off the remaining WSJ subscribers.
I occasionally read the WSJ Opinion section to read articles I can’t find elsewhere. If I wanted a NY Times-like editorial, I can just read that in just about every other newspaper/media site.
Louise Story’s Content Team is trying to destroy the only thing that separates the WSJ from every other newspaper in this country.
Agree it was a good news paper one could have trusted now it leans left I gave it up.
