Twenty-two mummified kings and queens were paraded through Egypt's capital city of Cairo on April 3, each "float" resembling a glitzy war chariot. The 18 kings and four queens were moved from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square to the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, located about 3 miles (5 kilometers) away, BBC News reported. The parade proceeded down the River Nile and included royalty from the 17th to the 20th dynasties of ancient Egypt... CBS News reported. Each mummy sat inside a nitrogen-filled box atop a decorated vehicle, which was equipped with shock-absorbers, BBC News reported; the nitrogen was intended to protect the mummies, since exposure to oxygen can cause decomposition. The parade route had also been repaved for the occasion, to minimize jostling.

Unpostable bonus story: Prehistoric cave painters were hallucinating due to lack of oxygen deep underground [Joe Middleton, The Independent, April 8, 2021]
It’s admirable the steps Egyptians take to preserve their history.
BTW, try a search on the phone number, it appears to be correct for this guy.
Thanks for the ping, SunkenCiv! What an amazing parade! I don’t think folks saw very much, but they seemed to put a lot of effort into it. I’m actually a little surprised that jihadies didn’t try to spoil it.

They’ve already spoiled the entire country. :^)
Someone’s dying to get in a parade
I saw a documentary a long time ago about Ramses II’s mummy being taken to France for study. It was received at the airport with full military honors per protocol for a head of state
People interested in mummies aren’t wrapped too tight.
Congratulations to that joke, it’s celebrating its hundredth anniversary.
I remember the Shah of Iran having a similar parade of their armies and navies of the past. this was around 1972. Lots of glitz followed by their modern army.
A few years later it was all swept away in the islamic revolution caused by Carter the Incompetent.
Yeah, we have nothing like that around here, probably because of the complete lack of mummies.
Oh-way-oh!(
Now when he was a young man
He never thought he’d see
People stand in line
To see the boy king
Why don’t they let them rest in peace?
I said don’t read the inscription out loud!
If you want mummifigeddon, this is how you get Mummifigedddon.
Not really. Tourism is their cash cow and terrorism has put one heck of a dent in it. I used to live less than a mile from the museum.
